CHICAGO - The Chicago Fire and local contributors, sponsors and businesses have teamed up to help celebrate "Kids Night Out," a soccer event organized by the Chicago Fire for underprivileged children in Chicagoland. The inaugural event will take place on Aug. 11 when more than 3,000 children will be treated to a night of soccer at Soldier Field, as the Fire returns to MLS action to take on defending MLS champions San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. CT.
The Chicago Fire called upon local businesses to participate in the "Kids Night Out" event by purchasing group tickets to the Fire-Earthquakes game and the response has been extremely successful, as almost 30 major establishments have responded to show their support. Additionally, more than 90 individuals have made generous contributions. The tickets will now be donated to several local youth organizations throughout Chicagoland.
"The Fire has always been fortunate to count on friends and sponsors for worthwhile causes, and we're very excited to know that so many of them have responded to our 'Kids Night Out' program," said Fire general manager Peter Wilt. "The smiles they will bring to kids - most of whom have never experienced a soccer game - is priceless and make all our work worthwhile."
The Chicago Fire was founded on October 8, 1997 as a Major League Soccer expansion team. In 2003 the Fire was crowned the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champion for the third time in club history, while also capturing the Eastern Conference title and its first MLS Supporters Shield. The Fire won the MLS Cup in its inaugural season in 1998 and its first two U.S. Open Cup titles in 1998 and 2000. It was crowned Central Division Champion in 2000 and 2001.
