CD Chivas USA holds player sign-up

Coach Thomas Rongen will oversee the tryouts.

Officials from Club Deportivo Chivas USA will be available Tuesday, October 26 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. outside The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., to accept signups for the final slots in the upcoming round of "Sangre Nueva" tryouts.

Less than 100 places remain for the tryouts scheduled to take place on October 31 in Southern California. CD Chivas USA has set up next Tuesday's registration session for those players who have not yet been able to sign up by telephone or via Internet.

"We are very pleased with the response we have received so far from our fans. This Tuesday we hope to fill the final slots for our upcoming tryouts on Sunday, October 31," said Whit Haskel, Vice President and General Manager of CD Chivas USA.

The "Sangre Nueva" tryouts are open to aspiring male players between 18 and 24 years old. The $30 sign-up fee includes a membership in "ChivaSocio," the official social club for CD Chivas USA's diverse fan base. (For more information on ChivaSocio, visit www.CDCHIVASUSA.com.)

During Tuesday's sign-ups, parking will be available in Lot 10 of The Home Depot Center. Players unable to sign up for the October 31 session will have the option of signing up for the final round of tryouts, set to take place before the end of the year. Tuesday's payment can be made in cash, with money order or by credit card.

Players may also sign up via credit card at www.CDCHIVASUSA.com or by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1. On the day of the tryouts, players will have to fill out an application form and present a valid photo identification or birth certificate.

The upcoming round of Sangre Nueva tryouts will take place Sunday, October 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT at Charles Jones Junior High in the city of Baldwin Park, California. Among the officals present will be CD Chivas USA head coach Thomas Rongen and Director of Soccer Dennis te Kloese.

Also in Baldwin Park will be several legendary players from the "Chivas Rayadas" of Guadalajara, including Salvador "Chava" Reyes, Club Deportivo Guadalajara's all-time leading goalscorer; Arturo "El Cura" Chaires, who captained the team to a remarkable four Mexican titles in the early 1960's; Salvador Gamero, former midfielder and current youth system coach for Chivas; and Elias Vásquez, ex-netminder and head of Chivas' goalkeeping school.

"Club Deportivo Chivas USA represents the continuation of the honor and tradition of Chivas here in the United States. We are therefore proud to be able to receive the experience and support of these legendary players who played fundamental roles in the rich history of Club Guadalajara," added Haskel.

Due to limited space and parking availability at Charles Jones Junior High, it is worth mentioning that access to the tryouts will be restricted to registered players, their immediate family members, and members of the press.

Founded by owners Jorge Vergara and Antonio Cué, Club Deportivo Chivas USA is getting ready to take Major League Soccer by storm starting next season.
