Burn hit the road for important match

BURN AT SAN JOSE SATURDAY IN KEY WESTERN CONFERENCE MATCH


The Burn will play a crucial Western Conference match as they travel to San Jose to face the Earthquakes this Saturday, August 21 at 9:00 p.m. San Jose (7-7-6) is currently in fifth place in the Western Conference with 27 points, just two points back of the Burn (8-8-5, 29 points), who are currently tied with Colorado for third in the West. Saturday's match will be televised live on KFWD - Channel 52 with Bob Sturm on play-by-play and Dave Dir providing color commentary.

BURN/EARTHQUAKES SERIES NOTES
San Jose leads the all-time series, 17-13-0...the teams have split the two meetings this year, with San Jose winning 2-1 at the Cotton Bowl on May 15 and the Burn taking a 2-1 victory at Spartan Stadium on July 7...the Burn's victory in July snapped a seven-match 'Quakes winning streak vs. Dallas...it also snapped a Burn four-game losing streak at Spartan Stadium and marked just the fifth victory in San Jose in 15 career matches...forward Jason Kreis leads all Burn scorers vs. San Jose with six goals four assists for 16 career points...Landon Donovan has eight goals and three assists for 19 points in ten matches vs. the Burn.


NHLEKO EVOLVING INTO "SUPER SUB"
Forward Toni Nhleko, who saw his first action Sunday after missing the last four matches with a hip flexor, once again proved his worth coming off of the bench late in the match. In three of the last four matches in which he has come on as a sub, Nhleko has provided a goal in the last ten minutes of the match. In addition to scoring the winning goal nine minutes after entering the match in stoppage time Sunday vs. the MetroStars, Nhleko also scored an insurance goal in the 90th minute in a 2-0 win at the MetroStars on June 5 as well as the third goal in the 84th minute of a 3-1 win over New England on June 12. Three of his five goals have come as a sub and two of his five goals have proven to be game-winners.


GIBBS, JOHNSON WITH NATIONAL TEAM FOR QUALIFIER WEDNESDAY
Burn defender Cory Gibbs and forward Eddie Johnson are currently with the United States National Team for a World Cup qualifier this Wednesday at Jamaica (6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2). Gibbs departed for Florida on Friday while Johnson joined the team on Monday after playing in the Burn's victory over the MetroStars on Sunday. Gibbs will be seeking his 12th cap while Johnson will be searching for his first.

BURN GAME-WATCHING PARTY SATURDAY AT THE STADIUM CAFÉ
The Burn will host a game-watching party on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. at The Stadium Café. The Stadium Café features great food, cold drinks (including $2.00 Budweiser and Bud Light draft and $2.00 well drinks) and there will also be some great Burn prizes given away at halftime. The Stadium Café is located on the south east corner of Addison Road and Beltline Road, in the same center as Purdy's and Bennedick's Breakfast Restaurant (www.stadiumcafe.com).
