Burn acquires Honduran defender Milton Reyes

The Dallas Burn announced today that the team has acquired the rights to Honduran midfielder Milton Reyes from DC United for future considerations. To make room for Reyes on the roster, the team reached a financial settlement with and released midfielder Gavin Glinton.

Reyes, 29, was on trial with the Burn from March 19-27 and participated in a pair of exhibition matches with the squad. He has spent the last two years with DC United, playing in 24 matches with two assists in 2002. Reyes suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in a preseason match last year and missed the entire 2003 season.

"We had Milton in camp for a few games, made a decision to pursue him and, after lengthy negotiations, I'm happy that that we were finally able to sign him," said Burn Head Coach Colin Clarke. "He's a player that has done well in this league and is a right back with a lot of pace that gets forward and creates chances. I'm very pleased to add him to the squad."

Prior to joining United, Reyes was with CD Motagua in the Honduran First Division from 1997-2001 and helped the team claim five tournament championships. In 1996, he signed with CD Independiente-Villela, which won the second division and promotion to the First Division. Reyes began his professional career in 1995 in the Honduran Second Division with Yoro FC.

Reyes has been a staple for the Honduran National Team as either a marking back or at right back since 1999. He has 32 caps with Honduras, including appearances in 15 of their 16 matches during the semifinal and final rounds of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2002 World Cup. His first international appearance came in the UNCAF Copa de Naciones in March, 1999.
