Career Summary

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club have acquired Colombian defender Yamith Cuesta via a trade with Chivas USA in exchange for a 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft selection. Cuesta will immediately added to the club’s roster. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Yamith is a gifted defender with size, speed and strong defensive skills,” said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. “Our defense will benefit from bringing in a young player with experience both in MLS and his native Colombia.”

Cuesta made his professional debut with Colombian First Division outfit Santa Fe. While with the Bogota based club, the 21-year-old scored two goals in 24 matches in 2007.

In 2008, Cuesta joined Expreso Rojo where he made 34 appearances in the Colombian Second Division before being loaned to Chivas USA in August of 2009. While with Chivas USA, the Turbo, Colombia product played in 15 matches from 2009-2010. Cuesta played with the Colombian U-20 national team in 2009, scoring one goal in three appearances.
