Jozy Altidore is a target striker who has been the primary option up top for the United States since 2009. He has scored over 20 goals for his country.
US NATIONAL TEAM
Altidore made his senior national team debut when he was just 18 in 2007. He scored one of his most memorable goals against then-European champions Spain in the semifinals of the 2009 Confederations Cup that helped the US register one of the most shocking victories in international soccer.
Hailing from New Jersey, Altidore was drafted by his hometown club, the New York Red Bulls, in 2006. After two and a half seasons with RBNY, Spanish side Villareal acquired Altidore in a high priced transfer, reported to be $10 million. After several years of unsuccessful loan spells (Xerex, Hull, Bursaspor), Altidore agreed to terms with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2011. In his second season with AZ, he scored 31 goals for the club in all competitions, earning him a transfer to the English Premier League with Sunderland before the 2013-'14 season. His first season with the Black Cats was a tumultuous one as the club struggled against relegation with few goals or opportunities for Altidore.
