Midfielder
6
Real Name: Tony Tchani
HT: 6' 4" WT: 185
Age: 27 (04/13/1989)
Birthplace: Bafang, Cameroon

HOW ACQUIRED: Traded from Toronto FC on July 15, 2011.

PRONUNCIATION: CHA-knee

After being selected No. 2 overall in the 2010 SuperDraft, Tchani went through years of being pegged as the MLS player with the most-unfulfilled potential. He was traded from New York to Toronto before winding up in Columbus, where he spent two seasons as a fringe player. With the arrival of Gregg Berhalter, the box-to-box midfielder finally began to realize that potential. Tchani's athleticism and physicality is the backbone of his game but his technical quality has steadily improved to help make him one of the top No. 8s in MLS.

INTERNATIONAL: Tchani was born in Cameroon and was called up to the Cameroon national team in November 2015. He did not appear for the team after suffering an injury. He was called up to the US national team for the first time in January 2016.

COLLEGE:  Tchani helped the University of Virgina win the NCAA Tournament in 2009. He spent two seasons in Virginia, recording eight goals and four assists in 2009 and was a First Team All-America selection by the NSCAA and College Soccer News. The midfielder earned spots on the ACC All-Tournament Team, NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team and All-ACC Second Team.
