Frei enters his fourth season in Major League Soccer, all with Toronto FC. Frei is the all-time leader in appearances in all competitions for Toronto FC. The past offseason Frei spent a week at Liverpool F.C. for a training stint. Frei was named vice captain during the 2012 season and wore the captain’s armband for the first time on April 13, 2011 against LA Galaxy. Frei signed a Generation adidas contract out of university, that contract expired at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
2012: Started in the first leg of the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals against LA Galaxy. Missed remainder of the season due to injury which required season ending surgery.
2011:Appeared and started in 27 matches, logging 2,406 minutes and six clean sheets. Surpassed Jimmy Brennan for all-time club appearances with 95. Nutrilite Canadian Championship: Appeared and started in all four matches, with two clean sheets.
2010: Started all 28 games played, logging 2,520 minutes and making 108 saves. Finished the season with eight shutouts and a record of 8-13-7. Frei also posted a 1.32 goals against average and a 70% save percentage. Won the MLS Save of the Week award in Week 15. Named Toronto FC’s Humanitarian of the Year. Went with the MLS Generation adidas winter tour to Spain at the conclusion of the MLS season.
2009: Started 26 of all 26 games played and logged 2,295 minutes, and making 98 saves...recorded his first professional win on 03/21/09 at Kansas City in a 3-2 victory over the Wizards... recorded first professional shutout a few weeks later at home in a 1-0 win over Chivas USA...finished the season with 5 shutouts...was the recipient of the MLS Save of the Week for 3 straight weeks (08/26, 09/05, and 09/17)...finished with a record of 9-9-7...was named Player of the Month for both March and April...awarded Toronto FC’s “Defender of the Year” at the end of season...played the first half (45 min) against Real Madrid on 08/07/09. Nutrilite Canadian Championship: Started all but one game of the Nutrilite Championship (Greg Sutton got the start on 06/02/09)...played both games against Puerto Rico Islanders in the CONCACAF Champions League.
2008 College: In 21 games played made 82 saves for a GAA of 0.77...was on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list... College Soccer News Third Team All-American...Top Drawer Soccer First Team of the Year, First Team All-Pac-10... NSCAA First Team Far West All-Region.
2007 College: Played in 20 games, all as starter making 91 saves with a GAA of 0.77...NSCAA First Team All-American...First Team All-Pac 10, NSCAA First Team Far West Region.
2006 College: Played in 6 games, 5 as a starter making 18 saves...GAA of 0.59...led Pac 10 in shoutouts, saves, save percentage , and saves per game. International: Member of Swiss U-15 National Team. Other: Attended De La Salle High School and was named 2005 Athlete of the Year.

Personal: Son of Marlies and Erwin, and has one brother Michael…hates Reality TV shows saying they are a waste of time…also speaks German…the best meal Stefan says he cooks is Hornli Mit Ei (a Swedish dish with sausage and egg),he absolutely loves eating…if he wasn’t a soccer player he’d be an artist as enjoys drawing…his favourite activity for a date is eat a good meal and then go to the movie…his childhood hero is German Keeper Oliver Kahn, and the player he’d most like to face in a game is Edwin van der Saar…also enjoys basketball, and his favourite vacation spot is the Maldives.
