Overview

A nine-year veteran of Major League Soccer, Sasha Victorine was acquired by Chivas USA in a late-season trade during the 2008 season, and immediately made his presence felt against his former club by notching an assist and scoring the game-winning goal against Kansas City in a 2-1 win on Sept. 27. The Southern California native spent nearly four seasons with Kansas City and five with the Galaxy, where he won a U.S. Open Cup (2001), CONCACAF Champions Cup (2000), Supporters Shield (2002) and MLS Cup (2002). Originally drafted by the Galaxy in 2000 as a first-round pick, Victorine had a stellar career at UCLA, where he won the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year award in his senior year (1999).

MLS Experience

2008: Played five games (four starts) for Chivas USA after arriving via trade with Kansas City, where he had played 16 matches (12 starts) in 2008. Before a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 19, Victorine scored two goals and added an assist for the Red-and-White, including a one-goal, one-assist performance against the Wizards in his first start with Chivas USA on Sept. 27. Finished the year with a total of three goals and one assist.

2007: Recorded the second-most assists (7) on the Wizards for the second straight season, and also scored two goals in 29 games (24 starts).

2006: Scored three goals and added a career-high eight assists, good for second on Kansas City, in 31 total games (30 as a starter).

2005: In his first season with the Wizards, Victorine equaled his career-high in goals, with seven, and added four assists in 30 games, all as a starter.

2004: In his final year with the Galaxy, Victorine had three goals and three assts in 25 games (25 starts), and appeared in each of the Galaxy's playoff matches.

2003: Played 20 games on the year after suffering a fractured right hip in midseason, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

2002: Was an important part of the Galaxy squad that captured both the MLS Cup and the Supporters Shield, playing 25 MLS games (22 starts), adding two goals and five assists.

2001: Finished the season in second place in goals (7) and overall points (19) for LA, tying him with Luis Hernandez and trailing only Cobi Jones (22). Had seven goals and five assists in MLS for the Galaxy, who also won the U.S. Open Cup.

2000: Was a strong MLS Rookie of the Year candidate for the Galaxy, recording three goals and six assists in 26 games (21 starts). In his MLS debut against D.C. United on March 25, recorded his first MLS points with a goal and two assists.

International

Victorine has appeared in three matches with the U.S. National Team, making his debut against Mexico on Oct. 15, 2000, and scoring his first goal with the team against El Salvador on Nov. 17, 2002. He was on the roster of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, where he made three appearances including scoring the game-winning penalty kick against Japan (5-4) after a 2-2 draw in regulation and sudden death overtime. Victorine was also named to the Under-23 National Team for Olympic Qualifying in April, but missed qualifying due to injury, and was part of the U.S. Under-23 squad that won a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1999. Earlier in his career, the midfielder played in 1997 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Mexico.

College

Earned the Missouri Athletic Club (M.A.C.) Player of the Year award in 1999, his senior year, and was also named a First Team NSCAA All-American. Victorine racked up 63 points (21 goals, 21 assists) in 65 career appearances for UCLA, and netted eight career game-winning goals. Five of those game-winners came as a senior, when he was named First Team All-Far West, recording 12 goals and nine assists for 33 points in 22 games in 1999. The midfielder suffered an ACL tear in his left knee at the start of the 1997 season, limiting him to just seven games played, and managed one goal and five points as a sophomore. As one of the top freshmen in the country in 1996, Victorine made Second Team All-Far West, tallying six goals and 14 points in 18 games in his first season at UCLA.
