Mexican captain Márquez joined the Red Bulls during the 2010 as a Designated Player, and brings with him a prolific resume both on the club and international stage. The former FC Barcelona man enjoyed his first season with club being deployed in central midfield. . His exploits proved valuable in a short period of time last season, helping the club down the stretch to clinch the best record in the Eastern Conference. A savvy player with excellent distribution abilities, Márquez enters his first full season looking to cement himself as one of the league’s premier players.

El capitán de la Selección Mexicana se unió a los Red Bulls en el 2010 como Jugador Franquicia, y trae con él un prolífico currículum tanto a nivel de clubes como en el escenario internacional. El ex jugador del FC Barcelona, disfrutó de su primera temporada con el equipo actuando en el centro del campo. Su valía y su eficacia ha quedado demostrada  en el corto período que tuvo posibilidades de actuar la pasada temporada, ayudando al club en la recta final para hacerse con el mejor récord de la Conferencia del Este. Jugador inteligente con gran capacidad para la distribución del juego, Márquez entra en su primer año completo buscando consolidarse como uno de los mejores jugadores de la liga.

Professional:

2010: Appeared in ten matches, scoring a goal and an assist. Club went 5-2-3 in the 10 matches he played in. Scored first goal for club and forced Toronto own goal on a free kick in 4-1 victory at Toronto on Aug. 21. Goal at Toronto was rewarded with MLS Goal of the Week honors.  Debuted with club, starting and playing 61 minutes at Chicago Fire on Aug. 8. Missed match vs. Toronto on Aug. 11 due to call up from Mexico National Team, where he captained the team in a friendly against Spain. Made home debut for club on Aug. 14 vs. Los Angeles, playing 71 minutes. Missed match on Sept. 4 at RSL due to call up for Mexican National Team. Picked up first MLS assist on Sept. 11 vs. Colorado, setting up Tim Ream’s game-winning goal off a free kick. Missed Oct. 2 match versus Kansas City with a left knee contusion.

2009-10: Appeared in 23 matches for FC Barcelona in all competitions, scoring once. Made 15 appearances in La Liga, helping Barcelona to its 20th league title and second consecutive.

2008-09: Made 37 appearances for the Barcelona side that won six championships, including the UEFA Champions League where Marquez played in 10 matches, scoring against Sporting Clude de Portugal in a Group Stage Match. Also helped Barcelona win La Liga, Supercopa de Espana, Copa del Ray, and FIFA Club World Cup titles.

2007-08: Appeared 36 times in all competitions for Barcelona, and added two goals in 22 league games. Also played in 8 UEFA Champions League games as Barcelona reached the semifinal.

2007-06: Appeared in 21 league matches and scored one goal. Made 35 appearances in all competitions.

2005-06: Became the first Mexican player to win the UEFA Champions League when Barcelona took the 2006 crown. Marquez appeared in eight total Champions League matches, including starting and playing all 90 minutes in Barcelona’s 2-1 victory in the final over Arsenal. Also made 25 appearances in La Liga, helping Barcelona to a repeat title.

2004-05: Played in 34 league games and six Champions League tilts, scoring three goals overall as Barcelona took home the La Liga title.

2003-04: Made his debut for Barcelona on Sept. 3, 2003 against Sevilla. Made 33 total appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

2002-03: Helped French club AS Monaco to the Coupe de la Ligue, appearing for the club 30 times and netting a goal.

2001-02: Appeared in 22 matches including 19 league games.

2000-01: Made 19 overall appearances including four UEFA Champions League matches. Appeared in 15 league matches, scoring a goal.

1999-2000: Made 31 total appearances for in his first season with Monaco, scoring 3 goals in 23 league games while helping lead the club to the Ligue 1 title. Made four appearances in the UEFA Cup.

1998-99: Made 33 appearances for Mexican side Atlas, scoring three times, and led Atlas to the final of the Mexican Summer tournament.

1997-98: Appeared 20 times for Atlas, netting one goal.

1996-97: Made professional debut for Atlas at just 17 years old, earning 24 total appearances and scoring two goals. 

International:

2010: Played in all four of Mexico’s matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, captaining the team twice. Scored against South Africa on June 11.

2009: Made two appearances for Mexico in qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

2008: Appeared three times for Mexico in qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, scoring against Canada on Sept. 10.

2007: Played in 10 matches, scoring against Ecuador on March 27 in a friendly.

2006: Made six total appearances, including four as captain in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Scored a goal in second round World Cup match against Argentina on June 24.

2005: Made 11 appearances, logging 710 minutes and scoring a goal against Panama in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification match on Sept. 7.

2004: Made eight appearances and scored vs. Dominica in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification match on June 19.

2003: Played in seven games and scored winning goal in 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinal vs. Costa Rica on July 24, helping lead Mexico to the championship.

2002: Appeared seven times and scored a goal in friendly vs. Colombia on May 12. Started and captained Mexico in all four 2002 FIFA World Cup matches.

2001: Made 12 appearances and logged 1020 minutes, helping Mexico qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

2000: Played in 10 matches and scored two goals. Scored on Sept. 3 against Panama in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier, and on Feb. 13 versus Trinidad and Tobago in CONCACAF Gold Cup.

1999: Played in 13 matches and logged 1777 minutes. Scored first international goal on Feb. 5 against Egypt in the 1999 Carlsberg Cup.

1997: Made debut for Mexican National Team on Feb. 5 against Ecuador, playing 29 minutes.
