Omar Bravo joins Sporting Kansas City for the 2011 season as one of the most decorated and beloved players in Chivas Guadalajara history and as a well-known member of the Mexico National Team. Bravo is a proven goal-scorer who has netted 154 goals in 451 top-flight matches for club and country.
2011: Bravo joins Sporting Kansas City as the club’s second Designated Player after the team signed former Argentina international Claudio Lopez as a DP in 2008.
2010: Signed by Kansas City in August and was subsequently loaned to Chivas Guadalajara for remainder of 2010 Apertura. Bravo scored two goals in nine appearances in the Apertura for Chivas Guadalajara and added five goals in the 2010 Copa Libertadores as he helped Chivas become the second Mexican club to reach the finals in tournament history. He left Chivas Guadalajara as the club’s 2nd all-time leading scorer, with 108 goals in league competition for the club and 14 goals in 35 career Libertadores matches.
2008-2009: Bravo was a mainstay at Chivas Guadalajara until 2008 when he moved to Spain to play for Deportivo de La Coruna, debuting in 2-1 win over La Liga giants Real Madrid. In 2009, Bravo retuned to Mexico on loan to UANL Tigres before being reunited with Chivas Guadalajara.
2001-2008: Bravo became a regular in the Chivas Guadalajara lineup during the 2001-2002 season, playing in 33 games and recording two goals. In 2002-2003, he found his goal-scoring touch, netting 18 goals in 41 games for Guadalajara and earning his first call-up to the Mexico National Team. Bravo won the league scoring title during the Clausura in 2007 and was the leading scorer in the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Bravo has scored 16 goals for Mexico in 65 appearances, including two goals in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. His first goal for Mexico came July 20, 2003 in a CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Jamaica. The next summer, he scored two goals during the 2004 Olympics. Bravo went on to score twice in Mexico’s 3-1 win over Iran during the 2006 World Cup and one year later, scored three goals to tie for 4th best goal-scorer at the 2007 Copa America. Most recently, Bravo scored two goals in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying and was part of Mexico’s 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship squad that defeated the United States in the final.
