ACQUIRED

  • Acquired on March 25, 2010 from Toronto FC in exchange for midfielder Nick LaBrocca and Colorado’s third round 2011 Major League Soccer SuperDraft pick.
  • Known as one of the fastest players in MLS, has made a transition since coming to the Rapids from a wide defender to a central back.
  • Former first overall selection in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by New York.
  • Has four caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team and was a member of the Men's Olympic Team that competed in Beijing in 2008.

MLS CAREER

2012

  • Was sidelined with a hamstring injury in May and June.
  • Re-signed his contract with the Rapids in January, 2013.

2011

  • Started a career-high 28 of 29 matches played and added two assists in the 2011 season.
  • Assisted one of Sanna Nyassi’s three goals in a 4-1 victory over New York Red Bulls (7/20).
  • Playoffs: Played and started all three matches.

2010

  • Started all 27 games in which he appeared, playing 2,383 minutes.
  • Until having to leave in the 43rd minute with a R hamstring strain vs. Houston (8/28), had played in all 1,843 minutes on the season. - Started and played 90 minutes in second U.S. Open Cup qualifier at NY (5/26).
  • Played five minutes in U.S. Open Cup qualifier at KC (4/13).
  • Made his Rapids debut a little over 24 hours after being acquired and started at center back in the season opener at Chivas USA (3/26) having never played the position before.
  • Playoffs: Started all four games and played every minute. 

2009

  • Started 21 of 21 games he appeared in compiling 1,890 minutes and recorded a career-high five assists.
  • Registered assists vs. KC (4/26), vs. Houston (7/18), at Columbus (7/25), vs. Colorado (9/12) and at Chicago (9/26). 

2008

  • Started all 24 games he appeared in logging over 2,115 minutes.
  • Made history with his first MLS goal at BMO Field striking a shot from just outside the penalty area beating Pat Onstad to salvage a 1-1 with the Houston Dynamo (9/27).
  • Was named the team's Top Defender of 2008. 

2007

  • Played 23 total games, 22 of them as a starter, logging 1,963 minutes.
  • Made his debut for TFC at Kansas City (4/25).
  • Appeared in one game for New York before being acquired by Toronto via a trade in exchange for partial allocation and a second round MLS SuperDraft pick in 2008. 

2006

  • Wynne had an impressive rookie campaign with New York, seeing action in 28 games with 23 starts and recorded three assists on the year, two of which were game-winners.
  • Earned first career point against Kansas City (7/22).
  • Was named the Red Bulls "2006 Young Player of the Year" for his efforts.
  • Was selected first overall in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by New York, after NY traded the #5 overall pick and defender Jason Hernandez to Chivas USA for the #1 slot. 

NATIONAL TEAM

  • Marvell Wynne has four caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team. 

2011

  • Was a halftime substitution and played full second half in friendly against Chile (1/22). 

2009

  • A member of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup squad which made it all the way to the final in South Africa and made his first career World Cup qualifying appearance against Costa Rica (6/3) at Estadio Saprissa.
  • Earned his second cap by going 90 minutes in a 3-2 friendly victory against Sweden in January.
  • Attended U.S. MNT training camp in January 2009. 

2008

  • Made no appearances for the national team in 2008 but was included in a number of Bob Bradley's squads.
  • Made game day rosters against Trinidad & Tobago (10/15/08) and Cuba (9/6/08).
  • Played all three games in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with the U-23s, playing every minute against Japan, the Netherlands and Nigeria…Also started and played the full 90 against Canada in the semifinal that confirmed the USA’s berth to the Olympic Games.
  • Called into two training camps in with the U-23s leading up to Olympic Qualifying. 

2007

  • Earned first cap with Men’s National Team against Argentina (6/28).
  • Part of 2007 Copa America roster
  • Started two games against China in December with the U-23s. 

2005

  • Started three of four games during 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland.
  • Assisted on Chad Barrett’s game-winning goal against Argentina in opening game, helping the U-20 squad earn a 1-0 upset win. 

2004

  • Came into camp for the first time with the any youth national team with the U-20s in November of 2004 in Sunrise, Fla.
  • Started against Honduras on Nov. 19, in the 2-0 win.
  • Also started the Dec. 20 game against Canada, helping the U.S. to another 1-0 victory. 

COLLEGE

  • In two seasons at UCLA, played in 36 games with 33 starts and recorded one goal and five assists.
  • Entered 2006 MLS Draft signing a Generation adidas contract foregoing his final two years of eligibility.
  • The only underclassman selected to the NSCAA All-America first team in 2005.
  • Scored his first and only collegiate goal on Sept. 30, the game-winner against No. 3 Cal. 

PERSONAL

  • Is named after his Father, a former Major League Baseball player, so his full name is Marvell Wynne II, Mom's name is April.
  • A follower of "Raider Nation", claiming it's his Dad's fault as to why he like the Oakland Raiders/
  • Lists his favorite vacation spot as San Diego, which is also home for him.
  • Three-year letterman at Poway HS, where he totaled 13 goals and 13 assists in his career, as well as 388 clears and nine saves.
  • Poway HS retired his jersey #3.
  • Also lettered in track and field and broke school records in the 200m dash (21.87) and 400m dash (48.10).
  • Played club soccer with Hotspurs USA, which won the Cal-South State Championship.
  • Traveled to Germany and Holland with the ODP team in 2001 and was awarded the Coach's Award.
  • Physiological Science major at UCLA.
  • Something not many people know about Marvell is that he is 35-40% Native American.
