Marcello Castro

Castro, a defender from Sacred Heart University, earned NSCAA All-American Third Team honors for his defensive performance during his senior year. He was also the NEC Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, earning First Team All-NEC honors as well. During his four years with Sacred Heart, he scored 23 goals, good for fifth on the all-time SHU record.

2011: Named NEC Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and First Teamm All-NEC..First SHU player ever named NEC Player of the Year...Scored a team-high six goals, along with one assist for 13 points...Went 2-3 in penalty kicks...Scored a team-high four game-winning goals...Named to NCAA Men's Division I All-North Atlantic Team by the NSCAA.

2010: Started at center defense in 17 games for the Pioneers...Selected as the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year...First Team All-NEC selection and honored as a member of the NEC All-Tournament Team...Named adidas/NEC Player of the Week for the week ending September 13...Led SHU in scoring with 12 points, on a team-best five goals and two assists...Notched a point in each of the team's first four games of the season...Headed in the game winning score in the season opener against Holy Cross (9/1)...Scored in back-to-back 2-1 non-conference wins against Siena and Adelphi...Found the back of the net on a direct free kick from just outside the box against Saint Francis-PA (10/15)...Tallied the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 road win at Central Connecticut (10/24).

2009: Started 16 games as a rookie...Led the team in goals with three and took 16 shots...Netted first collegiate goal in 4-0 win over Yale (9/29)...Scored game winning goal in 2-1 victory at Long Island (11/1).
