Career Summary

Atlanta United acquired midfielder Marcelino Moreno from Club Atletico Lanús of the Argentine Superliga for an undisclosed transfer fee on Sept. 22, 2020. The midfielder joined the club as a Designated Player and his contract was later bought down with allocation money. Moreno started five of his six MLS appearances in 2020, scoring two goals and adding one assist. In his first full season in MLS in 2021, Moreno started 30 of his 32 appearances and recorded nine goals and five assists. In 2022, Moreno started 18 of his 30 MLS appearances, recording two goals and eight assists. On Jan. 6, 2023, Atlanta announced it had sent Moreno on loan to Coritiba FC in Brazil’s Serie A for the 2023 season.

Moreno made 106 total appearances for Lanús, 85 of those coming in the Superliga. He made his professional debut in July 2016 in the Copa Argentina and his league debut came later that season on Aug. 28 against Boca Juniors.

Born in San Martin, Argentina, Moreno made 22 appearances in his debut season in 2016-17, recording two assists. Since then, he has gone on to make at least 20 appearances in each of his three league seasons at Lanús. He scored his first goal with the club on March 31, 2019 in a 3-1 win over Belgrano. He added another goal later that season in a domestic cup. His final season at Lanús was his most productive with the club, scoring three goals and adding six assists in 20 Superliga matches during the 2019-20 season.

Moreno has also featured in the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores, making a combined 11 appearances. During the 2017 Copa Libertadores, Moreno made four appearances to help Lanús reach the final before ultimately falling to Brazilian giants Gremio.

2022 (Atlanta United): Started 18 of his 30 MLS appearances, recording two goals and eight assists.

2021 (Atlanta United): Made 36 appearances and 34 starts across all competitions. Started 30 of his 32 MLS appearances in his first full season in Atlanta. Finished second on the team in goals with nine. Added five assists. Finished as the second-most fouled player in MLS with 104 fouls suffered. MLS Cup Playoffs: Started Atlanta’s first round match against New York City FC. Concacaf Champions League: Started all three of his appearances including the second leg against Alajuelense in the Round of 16 and both legs against Philadelphia Union in the quarterfinals.

2020 (Atlanta United): Started five of his six MLS appearances and made one substitute appearance in Concacaf Champions League. Scored two goals and added one assist in MLS play. Made his Atlanta debut Oct. 10 against New York Red Bulls. Scored his first club goal on Nov. 1 against FC Cincinnati. Concacaf Champions League: Came on as a substitute in Atlanta’s second leg quarterfinal match against Club América.

2016-2020 (Lanus): Made 106 appearances and recorded six goals and 13 assists across all competitions. Made 85 appearances in the Argentine Superliga, seven in Copa Sudamericana, five each in the Copa Superliga and Copa Argentina, four in Copa Libertadores. Made his professional debut in July 2016 in the Copa Argentina and his league debut came later that season on Aug. 28 against Boca Juniors.
