RSL: Selected in the fourth round (43^rd overall) of the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft on 1/18/07

With the retirement of Andy Williams this past offseason, goalkeeper Kyle Reynish becomes the recipient of the “current longest tenured RSL player” title, as the netminder drafted on Jan. 18, 2007 will begin his sixth full season with the squad in 2012. As the back-up to the 2^nd-longest tenured player, Nick Rimando, the UC-Santa Barbara native hasn’t had many occasions to show his stuff in recent seasons, but when he was able to in 2011 he would deliver, notching two shutout wins in his three first-team appearances. The 27-year-old ‘keeper will not only continue to be perhaps the league’s most underrated understudy, but will also be looked at to help mentor young Lalo Fernandez, RSL’s latest Homegrown addition to the roster.

MLS Career

2011: Made combined three first-team starts in 2011 across regular season and U.S. Open Cup play (2-1-0, 0.66 GAA) … Concussion-like symptoms and bone spurs in left ankle limited his action across the second half of the campaign … Stopped both shots faced on 4/09 @ NE, helping RSL to a 2-0 clean sheet triumph in what would prove to be his lone regular season appearance of the season … Started and went the full 90 minutes in both Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contests for RSL, a 2-0 shutout win on 6/28 v. Wilmington (USL PRO) in the Third Round and a 0-2 defeat in the Quarterfinals on 7/12 @ DAL … Also notched six appearances (five starts) in MLS Reserve League action,  allowing just three goals in 425 minutes (0.64 GAA) en route to posting a 2-3-0 record.

2010: Made six appearances in MLS regular season, CONCACAF Champions League & Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, notching a 1.20 GAA (8 GA in 600 min.), 1-1-4 record, and one shutout … Earned draws in all three regular season appearances, during which he allowed just two goals (0.67 GAA) and registered his first career clean sheet … Also went 2-0-1 during a midseason loan to the USL-2’s Charleston Battery, using the stint to sharpen himself for RSL’s August / September gauntlet of matches … Was between the posts on 4/14 @ SJ for RSL’s U.S. Open Cup qualifying opener, keeping a clean sheet for the first half of the match before seeing three goals rush past in a 3-3 OT draw … After 120 minutes of regulation and added extra time, the Utah side eventually advanced via a 5-3 win in penalties (0 saves, 1 miss in 4 attempts against) … The start @ SJ was his first in an RSL uniform in League or Cup competition since being drafted in 2007 … Started and played full 90 minutes on 5/21 v. Mexico’s U-21 National Team, recording 6 saves in the 1-1 friendly draw at Rio Tinto Stadium … Logged a solid 120-minute performance on 6/02 @ DC in an Open Cup qualifier, making 6 saves in the 1-2 OT loss at RFK … Earned first-ever MLS start on 8/11 @ PHI, his six saves helping RSL gain a valuable road point from a 1-1 draw in its inaugural visit to PPL Park … Collected his first career shutout on 9/09 @ SEA, making a pair of saves behind a stout defense in a scoreless draw that marked RSL’s first visit to Qwest Field since its MLS Cup 2009 triumph … Was introduced to the intensity of the Rocky Mountain Cup rivalry on 9/25 v. COL, making three saves in a thrilling 1-1 draw that pushed RSL’s MLS record home unbeaten run to 24 games … Helped RSL capture a slice of history on 10/19 v. Cruz Azul, stopping three of four shots on his frame in a 3-1 win that allowed the Utah side to become the first MLS team in nine tries to finish atop its CCL group (Group A). 

2009: Made his MLS debut off the bench on 5/02 @ COL, playing 55 minutes in place of injured starter Nick Rimando while making one save and allowing one goal in a 1-2 defeat in the ’09 Rocky Mountain Cup opener … Appeared on gameday roster for RSL’s following five contests in the month of May … Did not appear for RSL in U.S. Open Cup or exhibition play. 

2008: Finished RSL Reserves campaign with six of the team’s seven wins (6-1-1) and a sub-1.00 GAA (0.95), allowing just 4 goals in 378 minutes between the posts … Finished 18-game Reserves career (6 GS) across the 2007-08 seasons with a 0.92 GAA and 8-2-1 record … Recorded the first win of the season for the RSL Reserves on 5/04 v. LA, his scoreless first half helping RSL to a 5-2 victory … Started on 7/23 in RSL’s 1-2 international friendly loss v. Costa Rican champions Deportivo Saprissa, playing the entire match … Went full 90 minutes for RSL Reserves on 8/06 @ DAL, earning the “W” in a 3-2 road triumph … Posted a solo clean sheet for RSL Reserves on 8/30 v. COL, helping RSL to a dominating 4-0 win … Saw his GAA dip below 1.00 in Reserve play by posting 45 shutout minutes in RSL Reserves’ season-ending 2-1 win @ COL. 

2007: Did not see any first-team action in MLS play … Made RSL debut on 4/18 vs. Fijian MNT, playing the full 90 minutes and helping a mostly reserve squad to a shutout in the 3-0 win … Played 9 minutes in 1-0 victory on 6/07 vs. Chinese MNT … Entered at the half on 7/21 v. Everton and made two saves in combining with Nick Rimando to shut out the EPL side 2-0 … Enjoyed solid Reserve Division campaign, leading the squad with a 0.88 GAA and picking up a 2-1-0 record in 9 games (3 starts) … Drafted by RSL in the 4th round (43rd overall) of the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft on 1/18/07. 

College

After serving primarily as a back-up to All-American Dan Kennedy for most of his first two seasons, played every minute of his junior and senior campaigns at the University of California – Santa Barbara … Ended 57-game collegiate career (49 starts) with impressive 0.82 GAA, 33-13-4 record, and 23 shutouts … 2006: Played every minute for the Gauchos for the second straight season, this time helping UCSB to its first NCAA College Cup title … Went 17-7-1 in his 25 starts while registering a 0.91 GAA, .823 save percentage and 12 shutouts … Named to NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team after helping UCSB to a 4-3 penalty kick triumph over Wake Forest after 120 minutes of scoreless soccer in the Semifinals and a 2-1 win in the Final over UCLA … Also earned All-Big West First-Team and co-Big West Goalkeeper of the Year honors during his senior season … 2005: Played every minute of his 21 starts for the Gauchos during his first year as a full-time starter … Garnered Second-Team All-Big West honors and led the Big West with nine shutouts on the season … 2004: Served as a back-up, but made four appearances in which he allowed only one goal across 225 minutes of action … 2003: Red-shirted between his freshman and sophomore seasons … 2002: Enjoyed a solid freshman season, not allowing a single goal in 202 minutes of play, a Gaucho record to start a career.

Attended Santa Clarita’s Williams S. Hart High School, where he posted a 0.84 career goals against average … Set school records for both single-season (14) and career (38) shutouts … Helped lead the Indians to a Foothill League Championship … Named First Team All-Foothill League, All-CIF and LA Times All-Area … Also played basketball for Hart, earning MVP honors as a freshman … Played club soccer for SoCal United, who he helped win a West Coast Premier League Championship … Also played on the California State ODP squad.
