One of the breakout stars of American soccer, Altidore is among the most dangerous attacking players the US has ever seen. Generally used as a target forward, Altidore is particularly known for his strong, physical presence in the box. He went pro at age 16 in MLS with the MetroStars and has 28 career MLS goals in 62 overall appearances, sandwiched around a European career. Altidore will look to build on an injury interrupted first season where in Toronto, where he still managed to score 13 goals, and help the club get even further in MLS playoffs in 2016.

INTERNATIONAL: Altidore is one of the most decorated players in the history of the US national team, scoring the second-most goals in history with 48. His 120 caps are the sixth-most in USMNT history and he has been a member of three different World Cup teams (2006, 2010, 2014). While captaining the team in 2014, Dempsey scored two goals, including one inside a minute of the first game vs. Ghana. He most recently scored seven goals at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

OUTSIDE MLS: After two seasons with the MetroStars (2006-2008), Altidore transferred to La Liga side Villarreal CF on June 4, 2008. In January 2009, he was loaned to Spanish Segunda División club Xerex CD but did not make an appearance due to tie surgery. He then joined Hull City A.F.C. on loan for 1009-10. In 2011, he joined Turkish Super Lig club Buraspor on a six-month loan. Atidore signed with Dutch Eredivise side, AZ Alkmaar on July 15, 2011 and remained with the club for two seasons, making a combined 93 appearances and scored 51 goals for the club. He was part of the club’s 2012-13 KNVB Cup winning side, and finished as the tournament’s leading scorer. That same season Altidore set the record for goals scored by an American playing in a European league with 31. Altidore was later sold to Sunderland on July 5, 2013.
