How Acquired:  Acquired on Dec. 6, 2012 along with allocation money from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for Sébastien Le Toux.

Professional:

The 2013 season marks Martinez’s first with the Red Bulls after the team traded for his rights and allocation money from the Union in exchange for forward Sebastien Le Toux.

2012: Martinez made 18 appearances for the Union in 2012, starting in six. He scored one goal in a 3-1 win over Houston on Sept. 23, and registered a total of 14 shots in 594 minutes played.

2011: Played for Costa Rican side Saprissa before signing with the Union on Dec. 17. In 18 matches with Saprissa, Martinez scored six goals.

2010: Martinez scored five goals in 1,092 minutes on the pitch in 23 appearances for Saprissa. He made an appearance in all ten of Saprissa’s CONCACAF Champions League matches, contributing two goals and two assists. Martinez single-handedly helped Saprissa advance to the quarter-finals after burying the game-winning goal in the 89th minute against the Seattle Sounders.

2009: Martinez made his debut for Saprissa after an impressive development through the youth system. He was quick to make an impact following his promotion to the first team, scoring in his debut against Puntanera on November 15. During the 2009 season, he made 25 appearances for the Costa Rican club, tallying a total of eight goals along the way.

International: Martinez scored two goals during his time with Costa Rica’s 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup squad. He made seven total appearances for the Costa Rican U-20 team, and scored two goals in 15 appearances for the Costa Rican National Team.
