2013: Made 21 appearances (19 starts). Moved up to fifth on San Jose's all-time games played list (145) and games started list (141). Moved up to fourth on the club's all-time minuted played list with 12,527.

2012: Missed first three games of season while recovering from right hip surgery. Made season debut at Seattle on March 31, coming on as a substitute for the final 23 minutes. Came on as a substitute for the final 38 minutes vs. Vancouver on April 7, scoring the 72nd-minute game-winner off a glancing header to the far corner. Goal, which was nominated for AT&T Goal of the Week, was his second for the club. Started and played all 90 minutes vs. Colorado on Aug. 25, recording an assist in the 11th minute and two goals in the 43rd and 75th minute, respectively. Came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute and scored nine minutes later against LA in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals on Nov. 7.

2011: Moved into ninth on the club’s all-time list for career starts with 99. Missed two games (July 23 at RSL, July 30 vs. D.C.) due to right calf strain. Started and played 45 minutes vs. West Brom in an exhibition on July 12.

2010: Started all 27 games he appeared in. Played the full 90 minutes in every match from March 27 to July 22. Came on as substitute in the 72nd minute vs. Chivas USA on June 12 and converted winning penalty in shootout for the Sacramento Cup.

2009: Made 16 appearances. Missed first seven games of season due to left calf strain. Made season debut playing 90 minutes at Houston on May 23. Underwent season-ending ankle surgery on Oct. 15.

2008: Selected eighth by San Jose in MLS Expansion Draft on Nov. 21. Earned Earthquakes Defensive Player of the Year award and notched first career assist. Started 28 games. Played 90 minutes in season debut at LA on April 3.

2007: Appeared in 21 games (nine starts). Key component in league’s second-best defense, allowing just 28 goals. Played 90 minutes at Kansas City in Game One of Eastern Conference Semifinals on Oct. 27.

2006: Traded from MetroStars to Chivas USA in exhange for top selection in MLS SuperDraft. Started 24 of 29 games in first season with Chivas. Started two postseason games, logging 130 minutes at Houston in conference semifinals.

2005: Selected sixth overall in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the MetroStars on Feb. 4. Started and played three games. Made debut at Chicago on Oct 5. Played 90 minutes in both games against New England in Eastern Conference Semifinals.


Called up to USMNT January Camp in 2009.


Played 18 games for Seton Hall University in 2004. Team captain. Named to All-Big East Second Team in 2004. Started all 19 games for the Pirates and notched two assists as a junior. Named to NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic Region All-America Third Team. Helped SHU attain a 1.30 goals against average with six shutouts in 2002. Recorded one assist. Started nine of 21 games and notched one assist as a freshman. Only freshman to appear in each of the Pirates’ matches.


Four-year letter-winner at Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey. Earned All-State and All-Bergen County honors as a senior and set school records for career goals, assists and points.


Has a younger brother, Daniel. Speaks Spanish. Started playing soccer at age 11.
