Gomez spent his early professional days in MLS, bouncing around to the Galaxy, Rapids and Wizards, having success here and there. All in all, he scored 24 goals in 124 games and decided to try his luck in Liga MX. There he had immediate success, tying for the Golden Boot in the 2010 Clausura. Those performances led to his surprise selection to the 2010 World Cup team and continued success in Liga MX with Santos Laguna.

INTERNATIONAL: US international (24 caps, 6 goals) … Debuted for the US as a substitute on June 29, 2007, during a 4-1 defeat to Argentina in the 2007 Copa América … After his scoring streak with Puebla, scored first international goal in friendly win vs. Czech Republic on May 25, 2010 … Was then named to the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad and scored in the team's final pre-World Cup friendly against Australia … Went on to appear in three of four games as the US won their group and reached the Round of 16 at the World Cup … Scored two key goals in quailfying for the 2014 World Cup, vs. Antigua and Barbuda on June 8, 2012, and vs. Jamaica on Sept. 11, 2012 … Was also part of the US team that captured the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, although he was replaced after the group stage.

OUTSIDE MLS: Played in Liga MX from 2010-15, suiting up for Puebla, Pachuca, Estudiantes Tecos, Santos Laguna, Tijuana, Tigres and Puebla again … He tied for the scoring lead in the Primera División with 10 goals in the 2010 Clausura season, becoming the first American to lead a foreign league in scoring … He helped Santos Laguna capture the Primera División title in the 2012 Clausura season and helped the club reach the final of the 2011-12 and 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.
