Acquired by Los Angeles: Selected by the Galaxy in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft.

A Youth international for New Zealand who just missed representing his country at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Dan Keat is in his first season with the Galaxy after being taken by the club in the first round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft. Keat played his college soccer at Dartmouth College, where he was a Third Team All-American in 2009 after setting career-highs with eight goals and six assists. He started all 37 games that he played for the Big Green in 2009 and 2010 and helped lead his team to the NCAA Tournament four times in his five years.

College Highlights

  • 2010: Named First Team All-Ivy and NSCAA All-Northeast as a senior, Keat helped lead Dartmouth back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season. He finished the year with four goals and five assists while starting all 19 of the Big Green’s games and serving as a captain for the second straight season. The five assists gave him 14 for his college career, leaving him tied for fifth place in school history. He recorded his first assist of the season in the season opening win over Holy Cross on 9/4 and then added three more, setting a career-high, in a 4-0 win over Monmouth in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on 11/18. Keat tallied his fifth assist of the year in the season-ending loss to UCLA in the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament on 11/28. He tallied his first goal of the year on 10/6 in a win over Vermont before scoring his second three days later in a win over Yale on 10/9. Keat later added goals against Columbia on 10/23 and New Hampshire on 11/2.
  • 2009: Returned from injury to post one of the best single seasons in Dartmouth history. With a career-high eight goals and six assists, Keat helped lead Dartmouth back to the NCAA Tournament while earning All-Ivy First Team honors, and being selected as an NSCAA Third Team All-American and First Team All-Northeast. Scored two goals in the season opening win over St. Peter’s on 9/4 and then added two more in the 2-0 win over Rhode Island on 9/13. He collected the first of his career-high six assists at the 2-1 win at the University of San Diego on 9/18 before adding two more goals two days later in a 3-2 loss to Loyola Marymount. He then added a goal and two assists in a 3-1 win over Vermont on 9/30 before tallying further assists against Princeton on 10/3, Yale on 10/10 and Cornell on 11/7. Keat then scored his eighth goal of the season, in Dartmouth’s overtime loss to Boston College in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • 2008: Missed the 2008 season as a medical redshirt after suffering a knee injury prior to the start of the season.
  • 2007: Was limited to just 11 games and seven starts as a sophomore, but still garnered All-Ivy Second Team honors after tallying two goals and two assists. He scored his first goal of the season on 9/14 in a 1-0 win over Old Dominion. His second goal came in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, giving his team a 1-0 lead in the first minute of his first postseason game. He would also go on to score in the penalty shoot out in that game, converting his attempt, only to see Dartmouth knocked out of the tournament by Vermont. He added assists in wins against Cornell on 11/3 and Princeton on 11/17 while helping Dartmouth reach the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in school history.
  • 2006: Was named All-Ivy First Team as a freshman after scoring six goals and adding an assist in 16 games with Dartmouth. Named a College Soccer News Freshman All-America and NSCAA All-Northeast Third Team honoree, Keat scored three game-winning goals on the year, with all three coming in Ivy League matches. He tallied the first two goals of his college career in the Big Green’s 2-0 season opening win over Binghamton on 9/1. He added goals against Dartmouth in a 1-1 draw on 9/23, Yale in a 1-0 overtime win on 10/8, Penn in a 2-1 win on 10/15 and then again against Columbia on 10/21 in a 2-1 win. He also collected one assist on the season, which came on 9/15 in a 2-1 loss at Cal.

National Team

A member of New Zealand’s Under-20 National Team from 2006-07, he captained his country at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in each of their first two group games against Gambia and Portugal. He was in contention for a spot in New Zealand’s squad at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, only to suffer an injury in the Spring of that year that ruled him out of the tournament.
