Chad Marshall

MLS Career Highlights:  Won top young American of the Year and selected to the 2008 MLS Best XI squad… Was already widely regarded as  one of the league’s best defenders as a rookie in 2004, when he didn’t turn 20 until August...  Was a Finalist for 2004 MLS Rookie of the Year honors... Scored his first career MLS goal on  7/9/05 vs. S.J. … Picked up his first career point, with an assist 7/17/04 vs. N.E. ... Left Stan-ford after his sophomore year to sign with MLS and was the Crew’s top pick (No. 2 overall)  

MLS Career Playoff Highlights: Had appeared in 10 postseason matches entering this season, all of them starts, including all four in the Crew’s run  to the 2008 MLS Cup title... Had two goals entering this season, including the game-winner  in MLS Cup 2008... Scored first-ever playoff goal on 11/13/08 in 2008 Eastern Conference  Championship... U.S. Open Cup Highlights: Had seen action in nine matches, starting Round of 16.

CONCACAF Champions League Career Highlights: Had started five  matches entering this season… Had one assist, the game-winner, on 8/18… Had one own  goal (8/26). 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2012: Marshall's ninth professional season was a milestone year for the veteran as he played his 200th career match in Black & Gold in the season opener at Colorado on March 10. The defender surpassed Mike Clark for first place on the Crew's all-time minutes played list on August 29 in Philadelphia and on September 22 in Chicago, Marshall became the Black & Gold's all-time leader in starts with his 222 appearance in the Crew's starting XI. The veteran finished the season with two goals in 24 appearances, all of which were starts.

2011: The veteran defender started in 32 matches in his first season as the Crew's captain, recording one assist. Marshall was named to MLSSoccer.com Best XI of the Week four times.Started in the Crew's Playoff match at Colorado.

2010 MLS Season: Appeared and started in 24 matches... Had one goal (6/2)... Had  two assists (8/21, 10/16)... Named to the 2010 MLS All-Star First XI squad on 7/13...  Missed match on 4/24 and 5/1 due to L hamstring strain, match on 3/27 due to R hamstring  strain and match on 9/25 due to neck spasms... Missed matches on 5/20 and 5/23 due  to USMNT call-up... Called up to the USMNT World Cup Training Camp on 5/11.

2010 Playoffs: Started on 10/28 at Colorado and 11/6 vs. Colorado.

2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League: Started vs. Municipal on 8/18,  vs Joe Public on 9/14. and vs.  Santos Laguna on 9/21.

2010 U.S. Open Cup: Started in three matches (7/6,9/1 and  in final 10/5). 

2009 MLS Season: Appeared and started in 18 matches... Had four goals (4/25, 6/27,  8/1, 8/15)... Had two game-winning goals (8/1, 8/15)... Had one yellow card (6/20)... MLS Player of the Month for August on 9/2... Named MLS Player of the Week for Week 22  on 8/17... Named to MLS All-Star First XI squad on 7/13... Missed matches on 9/20, 9/26,  10/3,10/10, 10/17 and 10/25 with L knee sprain... Missed matches on 7/4, 7/11, 7/18  and 7/25 due to call-up to U.S. MNT... Missed match on 6/14 due to red card suspension...  Missed match on 4/11 due to facial contusion.

2009 MLS Cup Playoffs: Started both  playoff matches against RSL.

2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League: Started in  two matches… Had one assist, the game-winner, on 8/18… Had one own goal (8/26). 

2008 MLS Season: Started all 29 games in which he appeared... Was selected as the (6/14 at K.C., 7/17 vs. K.C., 8/23 vs. RSL and 9/27 at N.E.) and two assists (5/3 at K.C.  and 9/6 vs. N.E.)... Three of his goals were game-winners (6/14, 8/23, 9/27)... Was shown  just two yellow cards (5/24 vs. N.E. and 9/13 at TFC)... 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs:  Started all four matches in the Crew’s run to the 2008 MLS Cup title... Scored twice, the tying  goal in Eastern Conference Championship vs. Chicago on 11/13 and the game-winner in MLS  Cup vs. N.Y. on 11/23.

2008 U.S. Open Cup: Started and went the full 90 minutes in  the USOC Qualifier vs. RSL on 5/27.  

2007 MLS Season: Appeared in 12  games, 11 of them starting assignments...  Missed 17 games due to concussions...  Scored two goals, 6/3 at Chicago and  6/23 at L.A., on the season.

2007 Reserve Division: Started both games in  which he appeared... Scored one goal, in a  1-1 tie vs. Chivas USA on 5/13. 

2006 MLS Season: Appeared in 26  games, starting 25... Had one goal, 4/8  at Colorado, and one assist, 5/6  at Real  Salt Lake, which was on the game-winning  goal... Missed 4/29 game with a right hip  flexor, 5/13 game with a dislocated and  fractured septum and the 8/19 match with  a head injury.

2006 U.S. Open Cup:   Appeared in both matches, starting one...  Scored lone Crew goal in 2-1 OT loss

2005 MLS Season: Appeared in 30  games, all of them starts… Tallied one  goal, 7/9 vs. S.J., and three assists on the  season…  Missed the game on 10/5 due to  U.S. National Team commitment.

2005 U.S. Open Cup: Started and played the entire 120 minutes in The Crew’s 3-1   

2004 MLS Season: Appeared in 28  matches, 27 of them starts, as one of the  league’s top rookies... Was a finalist for MLS  Rookie of the Year honors... Made his MLS  debut on 4/17 at K.C. ... Missed the opener  on 4/3 with a separated right shoulder  and the 7/3 game with a left-knee sprain...  Became youngest Crew player ever start a  game on 4/17 (erased later in the season) and the youngest Crew player ever to tally an assist (also later  erased later in the season by Szetela) with  his first career MLS point vs. N.E. on 7/17.

2004 MLS Playoffs: Played all 180  minutes of the of the Eastern  Conference  Semifinal series vs. N.E.

2004 U.S. Open Cup: Started both games in The  Crew’s Open Cup campaign. 

U.S. National Team: Is expected to be  in contention for a spot on the U.S. roster for  the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa…  Has represented the U.S. at the Men’s National Team, Under-23, U-20 and U-17 lev-els...  Had four caps and one goal through  March 2009…  Notched his first goal in his  first career cap on 3/9/05 in a friendly vs.  Columbia…  Senior: Had 11 caps through  March 2010... Earned his first cap on  3/9/05, starting a friendly vs. Colombia,  and scored a goal in his debut, a 3-0 U.S.  victory... U-23: Made his U-23 debut in  February 2004, appearing in four of the  U.S.’s five matches (three starts) in the final  round of CONCACAF Olympic qualifying  in Mexico... U-20: Had 30 caps with the  U-20 National Team... Started all five games  at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Champion to the quarterfinals... Was the only player  to appear in all 19 international matches  in 2003... U-17: Made 12 appearances  at the U-17 level... Started two games at  the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship  in Trinidad & Tobago... Started all three  matches at the 2001 CONCACAF Under-17  World Championship qualifying tourna-ment... His first international goal was the  game winner in a 2-1 win against Jamaica  in the tournament opener on 4/18... Tallied  three goals from his back-line spot in 2000. 

College: A standout for two seasons at  Stanford, where he appeared in 40 games,  39 of them starts, including the 2002 NCAA  Men’s College Cup final... Collected eight  points, on three goals and two assists...  2003: A first-team All-Pac 10 selection  as a sophomore, when he started all 19  games in which he appeared... Scored one  goal and added an assist for three points...  Selected to the NSCAA All-Far West Region  second team... 2002: Had a strong rookie  campaign, earning Soccer America Fresh-man of the Year and second-team All-Pac 10  honors... Appeared in 21 games, starting  20 times... Tallied two goals and one assist for five points... Scored two dramatic,  game-winning overtime goals in the NCAA  Tournament, helping the Cardinal to a pair  of 2-1 victories, over Furman on 12/1 in  the third round and Creighton 12/13 in the  NCAA College Cup semifinals... Played  in the College Cup final, won by UCLA...  Named to the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team. 

Other Amateur Highlights: Was a  NCSAA All-American as a senior at Rubidoux High School... A Parade All-America  selection in 2001 and 2002 and named the top college recruit in the country by Soccer America. 

Personal:  Has a younger sister, Jaclyn Marshall… Has a golden retriever named Missy...  Enjoys working on his house... Was an avid equestrian in his youth and had a horse named Frank.
