RSL: Drafted in the second round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

Professional Career

2016: Making two appearances for RSL in 2016 Okwuonu started a single game on June 25 and played 90 minutes in a 2-0 loss at FC Dallas. He appeared as a substitute on July 13 at Vancouver Whitecaps paying the final two minutes in the 2-0 loss. Okwuonu started and played 56 minutes in RSL’s June 14 U.S. Open Cup fixture against Wilmington Hammerheads. He scored his first professional goal while playing on loan with Real Monarchs in the USL, where he totaled 1,299 minutes in 15 appearances.

2015: Selected in the second round of the 2015 MLS Superdraft, Okwuonu saw 118 minutes in three appearances with Real Salt Lake, making his first MLS start on July 11 in a 3-1 defeat to the Colorado Rapids.  He also made one start in the U.S. Open Cup.  He made his first professional appearance in March with Real Monarchs, finishing the season with 12 starts for the USL club.  He appeared in 9 matches with the US U-23 squad in 2015.

International Career

U.S. Youth National Teams: Okwuonu represented the U.S. at the U-17, U-18, U-20 and U-23 National Teams, including a trip to Nigeria for the U-17 World Cup in 2009.  He was a regular contributor for the U-23s in 2015 during their efforts to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

Personal

Born in Edmond, Oklahoma, Okwuonu's stops in his youth career included stints with the U.S. Soccer Residency program and with the FC Dallas youth academy.  He played collegiatly at the University of North Carolina.
