The original club captain of the Revolution Academy when the program launched in 2008, Caldwell capped a stellar four-year collegiate career at Akron in the fall of 2012 … signed as the Revolution’s second-ever Homegrown player, joining Diego Fagundez in those ranks … a box-to-box midfielder, Caldwell uses his excellent technical skill and field vision to help spur the attack … has a knack for connecting teammates with long threaded passes through defensive gaps in the midfield … has good footwork … since joining the Revs’ youth program in 2008, he trained with the Revolution’s first team every summer (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) from mid-May through the end of July before returning to Akron for the start of preseason camp ... currently studying for and taking the multi-part Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam ... Professional:

2013: Made 29 regular-season appearances, including 23 starts. Had two assists. Played all of his minutes in the central midfield, mostly as the deeper-lying defensive midfielder. Made his MLS debut at Philadelphia (March 16) . Recorded his first career assist at Chivas USA (June 29). Started 20 of the last 23 games, starting May 25. Lined up at a more advanced attacking midfielder at Columbus (July 20), with Clyde Simms lying deeper. Recorded an assist against Philadelphia (Aug. 25), springing Diego Fagundez with a long pass for the break-away goal. Appeared in both of the team’s MLS Cup Playoff matches against Sporting Kansas City, coming on as a substitute in both games: played 19 minutes as a second-half substitute in the team’s 2-1 win over Kansas City (Nov. 2) in leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, and then played 75 minutes in the team’s leg 2 loss (Nov. 6). Made two appearances in the U.S. Open Cup, including one start.

College: A two-time NSCAA All-America honoree at collegiate powerhouse Akron under then head coach Caleb Porter (2012 first team, 2011 third team) … the 2012 Mid-America Conference Player of the Year, a Hermann Trophy semifinalist and a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award … two-time first-team Academic All-America (CoSIDA; 2011, 2012) … a two-time first-team all-conference performer … in 88 career games with the Zips, started 66 and scored 20 goals and added 22 assists … captained Akron as both a junior and a senior … capped his collegiate career by starting all 22 games, scoring a career-high nine goals and recording a team-high 10 assists, which ranked eighth nationally … as a junior, started all 23 games while tallying six goals (second on the team behind Darren Mattocks) and a team-high 11 assists … as a sophomore, started 21 of his 24 appearances, including the final 15 games of the year when Akron won the NCAA Championship … named Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 College Cup after scoring the championship-clinching goal for the Zips against Louisville … as a sophomore, all five of his goals came in postseason play, and added one assist … appeared in 19 games as a freshman, and went 2-for-2 in penalty kicks at the College Cup.

Revolution Academy: Played one season with the Revolution Academy Under-18 team upon its launch in 2008-09, when he was a senior in high school … captained the Revs’ U18 squad for the inaugural 2008-09 campaign … appeared in six Under-18 games while rehabbing injuries before entering Akron … helped the U18s earn their first-ever win at a U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase when he scored three goals in 19 minutes in a 6-1 win over North Meck SC (Cornelius, N.C.) on May 25, 2009.

U.S. National Team: A former member of the Under-18, Under-17, Under-15 and Under-14 national teams … played with the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla., for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years … represented the U.S. as a member of the U18 team at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January 2009 …
