A club captain who grew up attending Sporting Kansas City Games, Besler is one of the best defenders in MLS. Since the beginning of the 2013 season, no defender in the league has completed more passes than Besler's 3,144. Besler was named to the MLS Best XI in both 2012 and 2013, and has been a four time MLS All-Star, including recognition in the last three successive seasons. Besler was named MLS defender of the year in 2012. In the 2015 season, he lead Sporting Kansas City with 38 starts in all competitions. A pillar of the league, Besler earned a Designated Player Contract in 2014 and Coach Vermes is counting on him to lead SKC's quest for titles in 2016, and many years beyond.
NATIONAL TEAM: Besler was first called up to the full US National Team in 2012, but did not see the field until January, 2013. He started against Mexico in the key March 26th, 2013 World Cup Qualifier, and helped the team to a 0-0 draw on the road.
