ACQUIRED: Drafted in the Chivas USA Dispersal Draft on November 19th, 2014.
A product of the Youth Academy, Chivas USA signed Glendora, Calif. native Marco Antonio “Marky” Delgado to a Homegrown Player contract in April of 2012. At the time, Delgado was the youngest player to sign a professional contract in club history at 16 years, 10 months and 17 days of age. He went on to make his pro debut at the age of 17 on the road at Vancouver on Oct. 3.
After starting the 2013 season primarily with the Red-and-White Reserve Team, Delgado earned his spot with the First Team and made his first pro start on June 29 against the New England Revolution at home. In his first full season with Chivas USA, Delgado became a vital part of the Red-and-White by displaying his versatility, as he started on the back line and also logged minutes at his natural midfield position. The young Goat played in 16 games (13 starts) and recorded his first career assist. His season, however, was cut short due to a meniscus tear late in the season.
In an effort to get back into top shape ahead of the 2014 preseason, Delgado joined Chivas USA’s U-17/18 team for U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy Winter Showcase in Florida. Delgado played in all three tournament matches and tallied four goals for the squad.
Internationally, Delgado has represented the U.S. as a member of several youth national teams. In 2013, the Red-and-White midfielder saw action with the U.S. U-17 National Team before being promoted to the U-20 squad in late 2013. As a member of the U20s, Delgado served as team captain in two international friendlies held in Verona, Italy in November.
At the age of 13, as a member of the U.S. U-15 Boys National Team, Delgado participated in a tournament in Argentina. He also competed with the U17s in Mondial Minimes, an international tournament in France, where Delgado started and played in every minute of all four games against France, Japan, Portugal and Uruguay. Delgado was also a member of the U-17 Residency Program during the fall 2010 and spring 2011 semesters.
