  • Began his career with Millonarios of Colombia’s top division, and played in 162 matches for the club from 2001 to 2008, scoring four goals.
  • In 2004, was loaned to Deportivo Cali where he played in 21 games.
  • In 2009, he signed with Deportivo Pereira and halfway through the season left to join Améerica de Cali.
  • Zapata spent 2010-11 season with Caracas F.C. of the Venezuelan Primera División where he played in 11 matches.
  • After one season with Caracas, he joined Club Jorge Wilstermann of Bolivia for the clubs Copa Libertadores campaign, in which Zapata appeared in two matches during the tournament.
  • Zapata left Bolivia to join Deportivo Pasto in his native Colombia and helped the squad to its first Primera B title and was promoted to the Ligo Prostobón, Colombia’s first division.
