How Acquired: Acquired via trade with Chivas USA in exchange for allocation money on May 7, 2013
One of the United States’ top attacking prospects, Juan Agudelo joins the Revolution in his fourth MLS season at only 20 years of age … an experienced player inside MLS, Agudelo has also demonstrated the potential to anchor the US’ attack at the senior national team level … known for his fearless attacking spirit, he continues his maturation process as a forward … is comfortable running at defenders, but also excels at involving teammates in the attack … a product of the New York Red Bulls Academy, became their first-ever Academy player to debut for the first team (Oct. 9, 2010) … with his first international goal in his first-ever cap (Nov. 17, 2010 vs. South Africa), became the youngest-ever player in the modern era to score a goal for the US men’s national team … is the first-ever product of the US Development Academy (with the Red Bulls Academy) to appear on the full national team… fluent in Spanish …
2012: Made a total of 24 appearances with the New York Red Bulls and Chivas USA. Appeared in four games for New York, including one start, before being traded to Chivas USA in exchange for Heath Pearce on May 18. With Chivas USA, scored three goals and added three assists in 20 games (16 starts). Scored his first goal for Chivas USA vs. Seattle (May 26). Added another goal against Seattle (Aug. 25) later in the season. Picked up a pair of assists at New England (Aug. 29), his first-ever multiple-assist performance. Closed the regular-season with a goal at Dallas (Oct. 28).
2011: An MLS All-Star as a Commissioner’s Pick. Made 27 appearances, including 12 starts, scoring six goals and two assists for the Red Bulls. Made his first-ever MLS start at Seattle (March 19), also scoring his first professional goal in the 1-0 win on the road. Won MLS goal of the week honors for his strike at D.C. (April 21). Notched his first career two-goal game in 5-0 victory against Toronto FC (July 6). Recorded his first career assist at Colorado (July 20), setting up a Thierry Henry goal. Played nine minutes against Manchester United in the All-Star Game in Houston. Missed stretches of the season while on US national team duty, including March 26 vs. Argentina, March 29 vs. Paraguay, June 4 vs. Spain, 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup (June 7-25), Aug. 10 vs. Mexico, Sept. 2 vs. Costa Rica, Sept. 6 at Belgium, Oct. 8 vs. Honduras and Oct. 11 vs. Ecuador.
2010: Signed his first professional contract on March 26, 2010, becoming the New York Red Bulls’ second-ever Homegrown signing. Made two appearances in his rookie year after debuting for the Red Bulls on Oct. 9, 2010 … played a total of 14 minutes. Became first Red Bulls Academy product to feature in an MLS regular-season match when he made his debut against Real Salt Lake (Oct. 9), coming on as a substitute in the 88th minute of scoreless draw. Played 12 minutes as a substitute in 2-1 loss at Philadelphia (Oct. 16). Earned his first start for the Red Bulls in their 2-1 win over Philadelphia in a US Open Cup play-in match (April 27). Started against Harrisburg in Open Cup loss on June 29.
US NATIONAL TEAM: Has earned 17 caps for the United States as of May 1, 2013 … has two goals and three assists for the US national team … his most recent cap came on January 29, 2013, in a 0-0 draw against Canada in Houston … became youngest player to ever score for the United States on Nov. 17, 2010, against South Africa in Cape Town, scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory … scored his second international goal on March 26, 2011 in a 1-1 tie against Argentina at MetLife Stadium (Meadowlands, N.J.) … was a member of the US U-23 team that attempted to qualify for the 2012 Olympics … made one appearance with the Under-23s in qualifying before sustaining a meniscus tear to end his run in the tournament … was a standout for the United States Under-20 team, helping lead them to the Milk Cup championship in July 2010 … a member of the U.S. entry in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria … made 15 appearances for the Under-17s … spent three semesters (Fall 2008, Spring 2009, Fall 2009) with the US Under-17 men’s national team residency program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
PERSONAL: Was born in Manizales, Colombia, and moved to the US when he was eight years old. Favorite sport besides soccer is basketball and his favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant. Enjoys watching movies and playing video games in his spare time. Favorite vacation spot is Cabo, Mexico.
