Drafted by Real Salt Lake in the first round (14th overall) of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft but not signed to a contract, Attinella returned to the Claret-and-Cobalt when he signed with the team in December 2012. He featured for Real Salt Lake five times throughout the 2013 season, making his first appearance for the Claret-and-Cobalt on July 13, when he subbed on for injured goalkeeper Josh Saunders in the 51st minute of RSL’s 3-0 away win over FC Dallas. The historic match was RSL’s first win in the state of Texas and marked the club’s 100th MLS regular season win. With Saunders suffering a season-ending injury and RSL starter Nick Rimando periodically away on international duty, Attinella went on to make four more appearances – all starts – for the Claret-and-Cobalt in the regular season. Attinella recorded a total of 14 saves, posting a 2.03 goals against average and a 58 save percentage. The 25-year-old recorded the first shutout of his MLS career at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on September 28, 2013 in a critical 1-0 road win.

The Clearwater, Fla. native is more experienced than most goalkeepers his age, having made 52 total appearances for the NASL Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2011 and 2012. Attinella had a huge 2012, leading the Rowdies to the NASL title, finishing second in NASL MVP voting and earning a spot on the league Best XI.

Attinella will likely be backup to Rimando in the 2014 season.
