Career Summary

The Red Bulls signed Rost as a Designated Player in July after an extensive career in Germany. One of the top goalkeepers in Germany’s Bundesliga over the past decade, Rost figured to be the Red Bulls starting goalkeeper, but injuries have limited his playing time thus far.

Professional

2007-11: Moved to Hamburger SV from Schalke FC in January of 2007. Through four and a half seasons at Hamburg, made 181 first team appearances. Started every Bundesliga match for three straight seasons from 2007-08 season to 2009-10. In 2007-08, helped Hamburg reach Round of 16 in UEFA Cup. Played 14 matches in 2008-09 UEFA Cup, leading Hamburg to semifinals. Helped Hamburg reach second straight semifinal of UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup), making 13 appearances in the tournament in the 2009-10 campaign.

2002-06: Signed with Schalke FC prior to 2002-03 season, and made 190 first team appearances for the club before transferring to Hamburger SV in January of 2007. In 2004-05, appeared in 50 total matches, helping club to finish second in the Bundesliga, reach the final of DFB-Pokal, and win the DFB-Ligapokal. Made 14 appearances in European competition in 2005-06, leading Schalke to semifinals of UEFA Cup. On March 31, 2002 against Hansa Rostock, became the second goalkeeper in Bundesliga history to score a goal from open play.

1995-2002: Began career at Werder Bremen, playing in the youth system before being promoted to the first team in 1995. Made 182 appearances with the first team, including starting all Bundesliga matches from 1999-2000 season through 2001-02 season. Helped club win 1999 DFB-Pokal and finish as runners up in the tournament the following season.

International

Has earned four caps for Germany. Made debut on on April 1, 2002 in 4-2 victory over United States.
