A talented goalkeeper who took a winding road to MLS, Irwin joins Toronto FC for 2016 after spending the past three seasons with the Rapids. With Colorado, Irwin made a combined 92 appearances with a 30-39-23 record and registered 25 clean sheets across MLS league play, MLS Cup playoffs and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Irwin was also named to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star game roster. He originally went on trial with the New England Revolution during the 2011 preseason, but had to move on to Ottawa's Capital City FC of the Canadian Soccer League, and later to the US with the Charlotte Eagles of USL PRO in 2012.

Irwin signed with Colorado following a preseason trial with the Rapids on February 21, 2013, and would go on to notch 10 shutouts in 2013, drawing level with Joe Cannon (2004) for the Rapids' single-season record. His 14 wins were the most for a Rapids 'keeper since Marcus Hahnemann won 16 in 1998 (two via shootout). Prior to his professional career, Irwin played his collegiate soccer at Elon University, where he was named first-team All-Southern Conference in each of his four seasons. He holds the school record with 22 career shutouts and set a single-season record with 10 clean sheets in 2009. Irwin is also a talented writer and has contributed articles to ColoradoRapids.com and SportsIllustrated.com.
