BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Serbian midfielder Bratislav Ristic has been placed on the Chicago Fire’s roster for the upcoming SuperLiga tournament.
Ristic, who recently completed a two-week trial with the club, is not technically signed with the Fire and presumably will not play in the tournament unless the club picks him up.
SuperLiga rules dictate that each participating team submit a roster with a maximum of 30 players that will be eligible for the group phase of the tournament. This roster may not be altered until the knockout phase of the tournament begins.
According to the Fire's spokesperson, Ristic was placed on the roster to ensure his eligibility for the group stage in the event that the Fire sign him before the opening round of the tournament concludes.
Fire technical director Frank Klopas is very high on the 30-year-old midfielder.
“He’s an experienced player,” he says. “He can play different spots in the midfield, he’s dynamic and he’s technically good. He’s got pace and he can play out wide too. I thought he did well here so he’s definitely a guy were looking at.”
Chicago face Mexican club Monarcas Morelia next Wednesday at Toyota Park in both clubs’ SuperLiga opener.
