DALLAS - CF Monterrey, Under 19 team, completes the twelve team Super Group and will play Real Madrid of Spain, Manchester United of England and FC Delco Crunch of Philadelphia in the preliminary qualifying games commencing on April 9 at Pizza Hut Park complex in Frisco.
Dallas Cup has always had international draw, but Mexico has had a strong showing since the tournament began in 1980. CF Monterrey of Monterrey, Mexico, has been a long time Dallas Cup participant and the club holds more Dallas Cup championship trophies than any other club. Tigres, also of Monterrey took home the Super Group trophy, after defeating the USA Under 17 National Team 2-1 in Dallas Cup XXIV. Last year Tigres, beat out Sockers FC of Illinois, to win the Under 17 division.
"This is one of the strongest Super Groups in the history of Dallas Cup. Playing at the new 21,000 seat stadium at Pizza Hut park, we are looking forward to an exciting competition at all age levels," stated Randy Jones, the tournament director.
23 teams will represent Mexico in Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXVII, including clubs from Univesidad de Monterrey, Tecos UAG, Club Pachuca, Maristas Monterrey, MTY San Nicolas, UNAM Pumas and CF Guadalajara. In addition to their Super Group team Tigres will be bringing their Under 12, 14, 15, and 17 teams and CF Monterrey will have their Under 15 team competing this year.
The match-up for Wednesday, April 12, traditionally, known as Simon Sanchez Celebracion de Futbol Night, will pair four Hispanic/Latin American teams together, pairings that Hispanic community would not normally get to see playing right here in North Texas. At 6:00pm Tigres of Mexico will play Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica and at 8:00pm Real Madrid of Spain, will take on CF Monterrey of Mexico.
