Montreal Impact forward Maxi Urruti to miss Concacaf Champions League after knee surgery

Maxi Urruti – Montreal Impact – tight shot

When the Montreal Impact meet Honduras' Olimpia in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals next month in Orlando, they’ll have to navigate the tricky quarterfinals clash without Maxi Urruti. The forward underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee, the club announced Monday.

The Argentine forward, who was on Montreal’s preliminary 35-man roster for the resumption of the Champions League, is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The 29-year-old, who had five goals and two assists in 15 appearances this year, signed a three-year contract with the club, with an option year for 2022, using Targeted Allocation Money, in Jan. 2019.

The Impact lost the opening leg of the CCL quarterfinals 2-1 at Stade Olympique in March.
