FC Cincinnati have added promising Homegrown left back Andrew Gutman on loan from Scottish outift Celtic, the club announced Saturday. Gutman's loan with with FCC will last through the end of the 2020 MLS season.

Cincinnati made the signing possible earlier in the week when they acquired Gutman's rights from the Chicago Fire (along with a third round pick in the 2020 SuperDraft) in exchange for $50,000 in 2019 General Allocation Money (GAM), plus up to an additional $150,000 in GAM if he was added to the roster and meets certain performance incentives. Chicago will also receive a percentage of any future fee should Cincinnati transfer or loan Gutman outside MLS.

“We are excited to add Andrew to our roster,” FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said in a team statement. “He is an exciting young player that will add balance to our backline. We look forward to getting him acclimated with our club and the city of Cincinnati.

Gutman, 22, was previously a member of the Fire's academy, and began his professional career when he signed with Celtic on January 31. He spent the first half of 2019 on loan with the USL Championship's Charlotte Independence, where he tallied three goals and an assist in 14 games, before returning to Scotland for Celtic's preseason preparations.

Prior to his pro career, Gutman was a four-year standout at Indiana University, where he helped the Hoosiers to consecutive College Cup appearances and won the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the best player in college soccer.

Gutman was also a part of US national team head coach Gregg Berhalter's 40-man preliminary roster ahead of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, though has yet to make an appearance for the national team.
