The Colorado Rapids added some experience ahead of the MLS is Back Tournament on Tuesday, announcing the signing of defensive midfielder Collen Warner on a one-year contract with a club option for an additional season.

Warner, 32, most recently played for Danish club Helsingor, but has otherwise spent his career in North American soccer. His most recent MLS stop was Minnesota United in 2017 and 2018, and he has also featured for Real Salt Lake, the Montreal Impact, Toronto FC and the Houston Dynamo.

“As we prepare for the MLS is Back Tournament next month, our focus is on continuing the form which saw us start the season with two consecutive wins,” said Rapids EVP and GM Padraig Smith. “We’re driven by the opportunity to win the first trophy of the season and recognize that this competition format will test teams’ rosters like never before. Collen not only provides additional depth to our midfield, his familiarity with Robin [Fraser] from their time together in Toronto will be an asset in helping him integrate quickly with our group.”

The Rapids were on the upswing prior to the suspension of MLS play due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taking a full six points from their first two games after experiencing a renaissance after Robin Fraser took over in August 2019. They will look to regain that form in a tough Group C, where they will face RSL (July 12), Sporting KC (July 17) and Minnesota (July 22).

Warner, a Denver, Colorado native, has made 204 appearances and recorded four goals and 12 assists across his nine seasons in the league.
