Austin FC have signed veteran American striker Aaron Schoenfeld as a free agent ahead of their 2021 expansion season, the club announced Thursday.

Schoenfeld, 30, spent last year with Minnesota United FC upon his return from Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won an Israeli Premier League title in 2018-19. Across five seasons in MLS, Schoenfeld has six goals and three assists in 65 games (17 starts).

“Aaron is a well-rounded player who has earned valuable MLS and international experience throughout his career,” sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a club release. “We are looking forward to seeing him integrate into our style of play and add depth to our growing squad.”

Schoenfeld originally entered MLS in 2012 with Columbus Crew SC after being selected in Round 2 of that year’s Supplementary Draft by CF Montréal. He played collegiately at East Tennessee State, with his five-year stay in Israel also including stops at Maccabi Netanya and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

A 6-foot-4 forward, Schoenfeld gives Austin FC another option up top alongside Danny Hoesen, who was selected in the Expansion Draft after four seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes.
