USA 2, World 2 -- quote sheet

getting back on the field or running an MLS team:

"At least I can look up at the clock and know when this one ends. I have certainly gone into a job that affords me as much, if not more of a challenge than anything I ever did on the soccer field. And because of that, I rarely have the itch to get back on the field."

USA DEFENDER MARCELO BALBOA

On reuniting with the 1994 U.S. World Cup squad:

"It was fun, there's no doubt. We don't get to see each other too much, so getting together was fun. I had a great time this weekend."

On playing defense in an All-Star Game:

"As a defender, it's always tough. We had everybody coming at us, so we were just trying to slow them down, and we played the offside trap very well in the first half. Thank God for offsides. We knew they were going to come at us down 2-0, so we did the best we could. But we had fun and that's what it's about."

On the offensive forays of Jorge Campos:

"I never got near him, but if he got close I would have tried to tackle him. You knew he was going to come, that's his trademark, you just didn't know when. He waited until the end, but it was great. The fans really enjoyed it."

USA MIDFIELDER COBI JONES

On the All-Star weekend:

"This weekend was a celebration of the '94 team, but it's really about the guys that are playing right now. To come back here and get on the field a little bit and show what they can still do was great."

On the match:

"It was a little slow-paced, but it was fun. I had a great time. All the players really enjoyed it and I think the fans did as well."

USA GOALKEEPER TONY MEOLA

On the match:

"Our offsides trap was, how do you say, working. It was a lot of fun to be out there. It looked like we were playing under water for awhile but the guys did a good job. I'm just glad we didn't need an ambulance all day."

On the impact of the 1994 World Cup:

"We've got a lot of people to thank from that '94 team for their efforts, especially the guys who came to play in MLS and also the guys that went abroad to play in Europe. A lot of good came out of that World Cup."

WORLD MIDFIELDER MARCO ETCHEVERRY

On returning to RFK Stadium:

"I felt two different things. I am so happy to play again but I'm a little sad because I will not get to play again in this stadium. The United fans are unbelievable."

On whether or not his playing days are over:

"I am looking to go somewhere. Originally I wanted to retire, but now I want to play. Supposedly I'm done, but now I'm feeling good and I want to play again."

On his reason for accepting the invitation to play in the Celebration Game:

"How many people wouldn't want to play with Carlos [Valderrama], [Luis] Hernandez and [Jorge] Campos? It's easy to play with them and I wanted to come here and enjoy it."

WORLD MIDFIELDER CARLOS VALDERRAMA

On his participation in the Celebration Game:

"I was very happy to receive the invitation for this game, to sharein with players from my era, my friends and collegues. As long as fans are happy, we love soccer and we hope to keep growing this game. We're going to do it."
