Twellman, Kamler could return for Revs
Revolution head coach Steve Nicol could welcome back two of his injured stars for Sunday's match in Chicago.
Striker Taylor Twellman and midfielder Brian Kamler have trained with the Revolution throughout this week. Both are trying to shake nagging hamstring injuries that have kept them of out the Revolution lineup since late May.
"Kamler and Taylor [Twellman] are possible for this weekend," said Nicol. "Both of them have been back in training."
Nicol points out that it would be imprudent for the Revolution to rush either Kamler or Twellman back for Sunday's match. The Revolution completes the home-and-home set on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.
"There is still a long way to go [in the season]," said Nicol. "We do not want to rush anyone back before they are ready. We would not do that anyways, but that is especially the case with our schedule over the next month."
Goalkeeper Adin Brown, who suffered a concussion against Metrostars on June 26th, has not trained this week. Matt Reis will continue to deputize in the net.
Shalrie Joseph is also unlikely to feature for the Revs this weekend, as he is still feeling the negative effects from a hip flexor strain. He also did not train this week.
However, the Revolution could welcome back Andy Dorman. The rookie midfielder has also been struggling with a hamstring strain. He has trained off and on this week, leaving him a possibility for a spot on the bench at the weekend.
Nicol also updated the status of Joe-Max Moore. Moore suffered a right knee injury early in the year. Nicol admits that the seasoned veteran is unlikely to feature for New England any time soon.
"He still has a problem," said Nicol. "We just work at it every day. It's going to be ready when it is ready."
With players returning from injuries, Nicol will have players lacking match practice for the first time through the season. He admits that is a concern as the team progresses into the latter part of the season.
"By now, everyone has a real idea of what we're looking for [in training]. If they don't get it by now, they won't be getting it. It is really tough for the guys who are not playing regularly. It is tough for them to stay sharp."
