Toronto’s De Rosario named MLS Player of the Week

Toronto FC attacker Dwayne De Rosario has been named MLS Player of the Week for Week 10.

TFC beat the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-1, at Buck Shaw Stadium, their first road win of the 2010 campaign.

De Rosario actually started the game on the bench, rested after the midweek trip to Argentina with Canada. TFC coach Preki inserted him at halftime, and he turned the game, scoring two goals.

The first goal came in 66th minute, when he ran under a long ball out of the back, cheekily flicking his shot under the onrushing Joe Cannon. The second came in the dying minutes of the match, on a similar floated ball over the top. This time, however, Cannon was out of the net and DeRo had the easiest of tap-ins to complete his brace.

De Rosario barely edged out New England Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph for POTW honors. Joseph, who had two assists and was the emotional core for the Revs in a bittersweet win over the New York Red Bulls, tied with De Rosario for first-place votes, but the Canadian took the award with more 2nd-place votes.

This is De Rosario’s second POTW nod this season. The first came in Week 5.
