Sounders' Fernández wins AT&T Goal of the Week

Álvaro Fernández has had an eventful year. After a Cinderella run with Uruguay at the World Cup, Fernández joined Seattle and has tallied two goals. His second, a game-winning strike against the Kansas City Wizards on Oct. 9, clinched the Sounders their second consecutive playoff appearance and earned the Uruguayan AT&T Goal of the Week honors.

A long ball played forward by Sounders 'keeper Kasey Keller found Nate Jaqua with his back to goal. A one-touch tap to Fernández's feet was all the Uruguayan needed to dribble through the KC defense and calmly finish the Sounders' second goal of the game.

Though the Wizards would pull one back late, Fernández's goal held up for the Emerald City.

Fernández won his first Goal of the Week honors with more than three quarters of the vote. San Jose Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski's playoff clinching volley against D.C. United came in second with a little more than 11 percent.
