The New England Revolution continue to mine the African continent for talent. On Friday, they announced the signing of 18-year-old Nigerian midfielder Michael Augustine, who is already with the team for training in Kennesaw, Ga.

Augustine was formed in the youth ranks of Nigerian club FCT Abuja, joining the first team in 2008 and helping them win promotion to the Nigerian Premier League in 2009. Revs vice president of player personnel Michael Burns, who has worked with manager Steve Nicol to form a network of scouts in Africa, speaks highly of the player.

“Michael is a young midfielder who we
believe can have a promising future in our league,” Burns said in a club statement. “He has pace and will add to the depth
we have in the midfield this season.”

The Revs are currently on a three-match road preseason trip in Georgia and Tennessee, where Revs fans will likely get a first glimpse of Augustine, who now becomes the second youngest player on the Revs after academy signing Diego Fagundez.

The other African players on the team are Kheli Dube (Zimbabwe), Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi (Gambia).
