Revolution bolster attack with two signings
The New England Revolution addressed their most visible weakness on
Friday by signing two new players to bolster their attack.
Serbian forward Ilija Stolica and Brazilian attacker Roberto “Betu” Linck will join New England as soon as their
paperwork has been finalized. While Stolica will count as an international
player, the Brazilian-born Linck is a US permanent resident and has played
soccer in the USA since 2002.
The duo will be asked to contribute immediately to a Revolution side
that has scored the third fewest goals in MLS and are averaging just a mere
goal per game.
“Our goal during this transfer window has been to bring in
attacking players,” Revolution vice president of player personnel Michael Burns
said in a team statement.
The 31-year-old Stolica is a veteran of the Serbian, Belgian,
Ukrainian and Greek leagues. Like current Revolution midfielder Marko Perovic, he
is a former Serbian Under-21 and Olympic player who most recently played in his native Montenegro with FK Budućnost Podgorica, currently in action in the third round of the Europa League.
Linck is a former indoor soccer player who is 10 years
younger than Stolica and turns 22-year-old on Saturday. The former Grêmio youth
player signs from Romanian second-division club CSM Râmnicu Vâlcea. He formerly
attended Irvine Valley College in California and later played with the Chicago
Storm of the now defunct Xtreme Soccer League.
