MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET

SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2004 - NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION 2, SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 2

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:

"It was an interesting night for us. The first 60 minutes, we didn't play well. We had a great come back at the end, but shame on us for going down 2-0."

On the game:

"I think that the crisp passing and ball movement that was there last week wasn't there tonight, so I was disappointed in that, but I was happy with the finish."

On the Earthquakes

"Sometimes, it takes us getting mad or angry at something before we start to play well. We shouldn't need that. We should play the way we did the last two minutes the entire game."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER JEFF AGOOS

On the Earthquakes:

"What spurred us was that red card. We played better with 10 men than with 11, and that's a problem. It's been a problem all season. Are we a good team? Yeah. But have we played well? No. Were the last team in the West. If we think were any better then were fooling ourselves. I think what it's going to come down to is our mental approach to the second half of the season. And if it doesn't get better, we're going to be having some off days in October."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER LANDON DONOVAN

On the Quakes' inconsistent play:

"It's been the story of the season. We can't put together 90 minutes, except for last week in the game against Colorado. Its frustrating. We still have time to come back, but we've been saying that for awhile now."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD BRIAN CHING

On the Quakes:

"I think the frustration was building up in us all game. We feel were not getting the calls, getting mad that we know we should be beating teams at home but we're not. We were down 2-0 and that was the final straw that broke us down this game. We need to be fired up in the beginning of games like we were last game if we want to make the playoffs this year."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL:

On the result:

"The got a couple of breaks. We played perfect for 90 minutes. But for four minutes, we let it slip. They're two-nil down and they're fighting for their lives. You have to stand up to it and be strong. Don't get caught and don't make mistake and don't do the wrong things."

On what the Revs can take from the result:

"We're unbeaten in our last (four) games. We played well. We scored two goals away from home. To lose the two goals in the 90th minute is disappointing."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION DEFENDER AVERY JOHN:

On not winning:

"It's an away point. That's the only bright spot. But we should have won the game. We could have done a lot better in the last nine minutes. They had 10 men. All is not lost. We did some good stuff in the first 80 minutes. The last 10 minutes we took our foot off the pedal. Let's try to be positive, more than anything. San Jose, they're the champions. We came to their home, we went up 2-0, we head into the break four games unbeaten and we just take it from there."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD PAT NOONAN:

On his goal:

"It was a good ball into Richie Baker. He had space and when you get space you can put in a good ball. It was a great ball and I just reacted, to be honest with you. I just let the ball find my head, I tried to put it on net and it went in."

On breaking his goalless streak:

"After that tie, to be honest, it's empty. It's an empty feeling. It's pretty much disgraceful that we tied that game. The feeling in this locker room is pretty bad right now."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS:

On the last few minutes of the game:

"They definitely stepped it up and threw everything against us. We were really resilient and they have some good forwards that can do a lot of stuff given time and space. I think we just kind of wore down and lost sight of some of their forwards. They played a couple of combinations and got in."

On whether New England was too greedy looking for a third goal:

"I don't think we were greedy enough. We didn't keep enough possession of the ball and we just kept giving it back to them. And a good team like this at home, they're going to come after us."
