Revolution 2, Metros 2 -- quote sheet
MAY 21, 2005
METROSTARS COACH BOB BRADLEY
On the game
"It's frustrating because I felt like it's a good effort and it's a game where you want to come out with a good win. I think it's an indication of things going into the right direction. I thought it was a good effort by a lot of guys. Created more chances, a lot of good things. Generally speaking, I thought it was a good game. They come in here and I think everybody realizes that they have a group of players that now have been together and they had a chance to grow in a lot of ways and it is a good team. When you play them you have to complete with them you have to play at a high level with them and we did a good job on that. I hate to see a good game like that thrown off with a ridiculous sending off. I thought that we still responded pretty well, terrific to see us now get the lead. The play at the end was a great cross and a great header. As much as there are things on our end that we could have done better for sure, I give them good credit, it was a good play."
METROSTARS MIDFIELDER EDDIE GAVEN
On the game:
"I don't think it was a bad game for us ... I thought we actually played well, but we gave up the goal in the end."
On the first chance of getting a goal:
"We have been actually talking about it this week and the last game we played at home and how we gave up our first goal. I think our level kind of dropped a little bit, but if we go up a goal or go down a goal we are just going to keep our level high and I think that is what we did after they scored, we came out and just kept on going and kept on pushing forward and making chances and wound up getting them back. It was good to see that. It was a little disappointing to give up the goal in the end."
On giving up the goal in the end:
"That's just the way soccer goes sometimes. We have to learn from this and we have to keep working on that every time we go out onto the field."
METROSTARS MIDFIELDER YOURI DJORKAEFF
On the game:
"We have to find a solution, the way we played against this team, this is a good team. I think that if we can man a team like this it is good for the future. We are trying and working to find a way to win this game. If we play like this at the end, we will have success. Most important is the concentration."
On the play of Abbe Ibrahim
"He played a good game. The ref was not very good with him. He showed his ability, and how quick he is. I was very happy for him and very sad because he was sent off."
METROSTARS FORWARD JOHN WOLYNIEC
On the game
"I wanted to make a difference and whatever time I was going to come in, I was going to give my best effort and give the team what it needed.
"We have been taking steps into the right direction and obviously we haven't had the best of success here at home, but I don't think we played that badly. We put together some good plays here. We fought hard today and we really had a good chance to get three points and unfortunately we let it go."
On the highs and lows of the game
"It was exciting to get a goal that quick, down a man, and against the best team in the league right now. It was exciting and the first sense of victory at home and having to give it away in the end, its tough. Well you have to give them credit because they scored a great goal. It's just hard being down a man for that long and really holding on."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION COACH STEVE NICOL
On the MetroStars playing with 10 men and seeming to be a little bit more dangerous:
"I don't think they were more dangerous with 10 at all to be honest. They scored a good goal, we'll give them their due. But you know when they were with 10 we probably made five or six chances."
On if he thought the Revs might not be able to respond to being down 2-1 late:
"They never did that, they kept it going, they kept doing the things you want to do. And we got the goal. I think we deserved the goal to be honest. But you know, you can see where the players are disappointed. You're playing away from home against the MetroStars, in the MetroStars home, not an easy place to come in and get points, and we're showing some balls and got a late equalizer. We can't be too distraught."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER KHANO SMITH
On his versatility and ability to play on the wing or forward:
"I played there for the national team before, for the Bermuda team, so I'm used to playing there or forward, either one."
On the service that led to the goal:
"Steve (Nicol) was shouting to get the ball wide to me earlier from last game and I just tried to get it in the box for someone to get ahead on it and Taylor (Twellman) was there and put it in."
On the MLS level, the speed of play, so far:
"It's definitely quicker than Bermuda, it's definitely a quicker style of play, but I feel I have adjusted to it."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION GOALKEEPER MATT REIS
On the outcome of the game:
On his save late in the first half on a shot by Abbe Ibrahim:
"I had a few cuts inside, my momentum's taking me to the left so I mean I try and stay as close to that near post as possible and it's just a reflex to get that hand out."
NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION FORWARD TAYLOR TWELLMAN
On the number of chances the Revs had to score (in the second half):
"I think you got to take positives from a game and obviously one of those was we created a lot of chances. You know it's always positive, this team's going to score goals if we create chances but I think on one hand we're happy we got a point, on the other hand we're a little disappointed with the way we played today.
On his second goal:
"My job is just to get in the box and hopefully get on the end of things and fortunately today I got a couple of very good passes."
