Report: Krol won't return to Chicago
Chicago Fire defender Krzysztof Krol appears to be on the way out of Toyota Park.
The 23-year-old Polish defender, who came to the Fire on a year-long loan deal in January, told SoccerChris.com last week that he’ll return to Europe this offseason to increase his chances of making the Polish roster for Euro 2012.
“My one year here in Chicago was a very good experience and I loved it,” Krol said in a Q&A with the Northern California-based blog. “But is clear to me that if I want to play for the Polish national team, I will have to play in Europe.”
The Fire have declined to comment on the report.
Krol made 19 league appearances in 2010, starting 17 times and registering a single assist. He began the season as the team’s first choice left back but was relegated to the bench in August, when Costa Rican defender Gonzalo Segares returned to Toyota Park.
Krol, whose contract is owned by Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok, said that he isn’t yet sure where he’ll play next season.
