Report: Dempsey to Liverpool is possible
NEW YORK – The rumors of Clint Dempsey joining Liverpool are
being revived once again and this time his former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson is
not the one pulling the strings at Anfield Road.
A report in UK newspaper Metro
claims that Liverpool left back Paul Konchesky could be sent back to Fulham as
part of a transfer for Dempsey. If a transfer does materialize, it would have
to happen before the close of the window on Jan. 31.
The article claims that Konchesky is out of favor on
Merseyside since Kenny Dalglish took over for Hodgson. The former Fulham player
was acquired by Liverpool last August on a reported $6 million transfer.
Liverpool were taken over by American owners earlier this
year with New England Sports Ventures (NESV) assuming control of the club from
Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Dempsey is a former New England Revolution player in MLS,
featuring in the same city in which NESV is based. His six league goals for
Fulham are just one off his career high in the EPL.
