Report: Cummings may be loaned to EPL club
The reigning MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids have made it abundantly clear that
they are seeking to keep Omar Cummings on the club’s books for the long term. But that may not rule out a potential loan move for the Jamaican international during
the MLS offseason, possibly to a team in the English Premier League.
Cummings’s agent, Patrick McCabe, confirmed as much in a
report published by Jamaican daily The
Gleaner and it would seem to be a negotiation that is well underway.
"That [discussion] is very much in progress," McCabe
told The Gleaner. "A loan deal is being discussed with a Premiership team,
a top-10 team."
Cummings had been courted by Mexican club Necaxa during the summer months but the Rapids rejected the transfer bids for the 28-year-old forward,
who struck for 14 goals in the 2010 regular season.
In the same article, McCabe indicated that there were “three
or four teams in the EPL” that were also interested in NY Red Bulls winger Dane
Richards. However, the Red Bulls are not interested in negotiating a transfer involving the speedy Jamaican.
Both Richards and Cummings helped Jamaica capture the Digicel
Caribbean Cup in December and an automatic berth to the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup
which will be held in the United States.
