D.C. UNITED 1, LOS ANGELES GALAXY 0

LOS ANGELES GALAXY HEAD COACH STEVE SAMPSON

On the game:

"I thought that up until the 90th minute it was a good performance. Not a great performance, but a good performance from the standpoint that we created a number of opportunities. I thought defensively for most of the match, we had United fairly well controlled. I think we got a little greedy towards the end and started looking for the win and opened up in the midfield and got caught very flat and allowed the counterattack and a good finish by Freddy [Adu].

And again up until the 90th minute even at a tie, we would've gotten a lot of positives out of this from the standpoint that Chris Albright would've gotten 90 [minutes]. That was a positive. Joseph Ngwenya had an opportunity to come back and play 30 minutes. Up until that point we could've drawn a lot of positive things out of it. We're disappointed we gave up a goal at the end and pretty much erases all the positives from my standpoint."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY TYRONE MARSHALL

On the game:

"We were that close. In the 89th minute, we need to not give up the point. We saw that they got a couple of chances; we did not recognize that the middle was open. It's a hard one today especially being our first home loss. We just have to get back to the drawing table and we'll hopefully go back up to New England and get a point out there because its going to hard."

On missed opportunities:

"We have to take our opportunities, we had some opportunities early that we missed and we let them back in the game. We need to put away our chances. A day like today, we know we would've had the point, even get three points. We just need to put our chances away. One of those good shots by the kid (Freddy Adu), it went in, there's nothing you can do about that. Everybody tried but we'll have to dig down deep and go back up to New England and battle hard, and we'll have to show some character up there and try and get a point on the road or a win."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY FORWARD JOSEPH NGWENYA

On coming back from injury:

"It's great of course, from an injury, it's always good to be back. I could've done better, no doubt about that, but I need to work on my fitness."

On his fitness:

"I feel all right, but there is always room for improvement. It was my first game back; I think I can work on a lot of things. My touch was off a little bit. My sharpness around the box and other things like that I need to be working on."

D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK

On the match:

"Defensively, we made a couple of mistakes; I was not happy with our offensive work. We were too careless with the ball, especially in the first half. We did not connect enough passes well. The second half was better, especially the play of Dema [Kovalenko] and Josh [Gros]. We took advantage of the situations we had, and played a couple of through ball when we had the chance."

On Freddy Adu's goal:

"We told our forwards 'pick your spot,' and Freddy was just picking his spot and he did very well with it. I am happy for him because he was working very hard over the last 5-6 weeks to connect with his teammates. Tactically, we were the better team today and we got three points."

On whether or not he thought the match would end scoreless:

"Freddy made a 30-yard run and Jamil [Walker] did a great job as well, taking the defender to his right so Freddy could go in the middle and find a spot and it led to an open shot. As I said, tactically we were the better team and the boys stuck to the game plan and made this happen."

D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER FREDDY ADU

On the game-winning goal:

"Brandon [Prideaux] won the ball, I was able to turn and face up and the rest is history."

On the Galaxy-United rivalry:

"We know it's a big rivalry. Every single game, you want to come out and win, especially on the road. We felt that we gave three points away in Kansas City (on Wednesday) so we really wanted the points here ... and everybody did a great job."
