Quakes 2, Wizards 0: Quote sheet

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 2, KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 0

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:

"I thought that overall, it was a great effort by our guys right from the start tonight. We were committed defensively and we were aggressive and really forced the play, and to be able to take that two-goal lead is obviously a huge advantage for us."

On team's play:

"Spartan Stadium is a tough place for anyone to come in and play and I thought we did a great job of making it difficult for Kansas City. Starting at the top with Brian Ching and Dwayne [De Rosario] and all the way through the back. The attitude and effort was excellent tonight. Our midfield played great, I felt that Ian [Russell] was strong on the wing and Brian Mullan is always a handful. Ramiro [Corrales] was smart on the ball today, and I didn't think they really had a answer for Landon [Donovan] tonight."

On looking ahead to Game 2 of the series in Kansas City:

"We know that it is just halftime, and we are up two goals. The locker room is happy right now, but I think that everyone understands that this isn't over. Bob Gansler is a very good coach and the Wizards won a lot of games this year. They are going to come out and play smart and make it difficult for us."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER LANDON DONOVAN

On looking forward to Game 2:

"We know what their situation is like. We know the position that they are in, because we were there last year, so they are going to come after us at their home field - which is a very hard place to play."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD DWAYNE De ROSARIO

On the first goal of game:

"It wasn't a shot, it was a chip. I was trying to make something happen and go to the back post with it, and then it caught a deflection and it was too hard for the goalkeeper to get."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER CRAIG WAIBEL

On the second goal:

"I saw Jeff [Agoos] kick it, and I just made a run toward the post. I don't really know what happened on the play, I felt like there was a guy right on me, and the ball came down and I was so close to the goal that I was just trying to get something on it. I don't know if I knocked it in with my knee or foot - I'm just glad that it went in the goal."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER TODD DUNIVANT

On the game:

"With the first game at home, we wanted to come out and be aggressive and create some chances and I think we did that in the first half. We were all over them and Dwayne's (De Rosario) goal was big right before halftime. The game was similar to the one two weeks ago, but this time we got the goals, so we have the advantage going into Game 2."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER

On the game:

"Difficult game for us. We just didn't take good enough care of the ball. Obviously that has something to do with their pressure but it also has something to do with our decision making and our movement of the ball. We got pinned into our own half too much in the first half and ironically we weathered all of those corner kicks. There were eight in the first half. We don't want to give up that many because it is difficult to defend those at anytime but even more so in this park with the dimensions. We were looking to go out there to play our best but that wasn't to be today -- we weren't close enough. We are better than that and are going to have to find that resolve in the next three or four days and go out there and bang in two goals and take it from there."
