MLS Quote Sheet: S.J. Earthquakes 3, N.E. Revolution 1

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION HEAD COACH STEVE NICOL

On his defense in the second half:

"You lose goals, you lose games. I think that's pretty obvious. We could have scored five, we could have lost six as well."

On what caused the goals:

"Basic mistakes. All the goals could have probably been avoided with better decisions."

On whether the Revs' week off in Week Two helped or hurt:

"We've been indoors which hasn't helped and it was probably good to have not played last weekend but we certainly didn't start the game well tonight. It was 20 minutes before we got going. But once we got going we created some chances. But again, it boils down to if you're going to score five there's no point if you're going to let in more than that."

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION MIDFIELDER STEVE RALSTON

On why the Revs leaked their goals after taking the lead:

"I wish I knew the answers. Obviously we're disappointed. You're at home and you go up one-nothing and you give up three goals in 25 minutes or so. We had lapses. We had possession and we're pushing up field. We had guys going forward. We were fortunate to get out at halftime 0-0. We came out and played poor. We could have been down 2-0 easily. We came out and played better in the second half and put some good things together, but we just had lapses in the back."

On how it can be corrected:

"I think a lot of it's mental. Guys aren't paying attention. Just little things. When the ball gets turned over get behind the ball and I don't know if guys are going to start paying attention or what's going on."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On first win:

"It feels good to get that first win. You want to start the season out winning and after the first two games we were looking up at the rest of the teams in the West. I am glad we got a win and pulled ourselves out of that position."

On the goals:

"We knew coming in that they like to play two-v-two in the back and we thought that we could get some goals. In the first half, we weren't able to finish some chances, but Dwayne's (DeRosario) goal gave us some confidence and I think that we scored two great goals to get the win."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On second-half save on Twellman:

"I think it took some of the wind out of their sails so that was good. I thought that maybe I could have come out and gotten that ball in the first place, so I am glad he did not punish me for my mistake. I got my leg on the first header and then I was able to react and get a hand on the rebound attempt."

On winning on the road:

"It always feels great to get a win on the road. Tonight it was extra special because of how we won, coming back from a goal down in the second half."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD DWAYNE DE ROSARIO

On bicycle kick goal:

"When I saw the ball coming off the deflection, my first instinct was to bicycle it and it felt great when it went in. We have been working very hard to get goals in the first three games so I was happy to see one finally go in."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD BRIAN CHING

On getting goal in return to Foxboro, where he suffered a season-ending injury in 2003:

"It felt great to get in the game and contribute. I really hadn"t thought about coming back here until someone mentioned it a few days ago. I am just glad that we got a win tonight and we can move forward from here. It was a great first step for us tonight."
